Best. Quote. Ever, from a Katrina victim....
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 03:29 PM by Richardo
This guy was a chef in a New Orleans restaurant and has had to relocate to Sealy, Texas about 50 miles west of Houston:

"It's total culture shock," said Theodore, the chef who wound up in Sealy, population 5,200, after fleeing the Ninth Ward with his extended family and driving west until he found a hotel room.

"I've lived in big cities all my life, and now I see cows and horses, and they're not on milk cartons," he said.

"It's like I've died and gone to Mayberry."

You shoulda seen the pic in the paper - it wasn't on the website. Big guy in his chef whites with his arms outspread, in front of this rinky little town. Caption: "It's like I died and went to Mayberry!"

I actually LOL'ed at the newsstand.

(Note: Before I posted I noticed I spelled your name Bummy. Pretty funny, but a little TOO familiar, eh?)

3. Sealy was home to one of the last two openly run brothels in TX

we used to go quite often in late 60s/early 70s when I lived in Houston. The other one was in La Grange, the one made famous by "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "La Grange" by ZZTop.
The "Mayberry" quote is pretty close to the mark.

If I was faster on the keyboard I could tell some great stories about Sealy.
