9. Yup. Reminds me of an experience with a Barnes & Noble sales punk... |
|
A few years ago, my sister and I had gone into B&N to kill some time looking at books, and Molly Ivins came up in conversation. I was going to buy her a copy of Ivins' You Got to Dance With Them What Brung You, but couldn't find a copy on the shelf. We went to the information desk to have them check stock on the book in case we weren't looking in the right section. When I gave the title to the clerk, he gave me a long, condescending look, and said "Brought. It's brought"
I gave him a long, condescending look in return, and just said "check the title." All I got in response was an embarrassed "oh," sans apology.
As we walked away, my sister said, "wow--I can't believe you didn't pull rank on him; you showed impressive restraint."**
**I have a master's degree in English lit, and was teaching freshman comp at the time (and I have a reputation for taking zero shit from people).

If he was going to correct the grammar, the whole title is out of whack. Just changing "brung" doesn't do much to clean it up.

7. Sutcliffe, as an announcer, is a very handsome man |
|
and was once a very fine pitcher. Have no idea why they pay him to sit behind a mike, as he has nothing to contribute and sounds, at best, like a cartoon character. I'm sure he's a very nice fellow, though.
