I need positive vibes for my middle school cheerleaders!
Please mentally will approximately 20 children to show up at our cheerleading clinic tomorrow. I sent home flyers for the darned thing with an RSVP on it to 8 local elementary schools. 1 kid signed up.

ONE.

We can't buy uniforms with the money from just one kid.

So here's hoping people were just being rude about not RSVPing rather than blowing the whole thing off altogether.

I'll be back tomorrow with pics of the kids that do show up. The one who already signed up is the cutest little 5 yo. She looks like an elf. :D

1. Awww
I hope more show up than RSVP'd. That's terrible.

2. Yeah. I dunno what I did wrong. *sniffling* It may be some of the
schools never even bothered to hand out the flyers. I had wanted to advertise in the paper but that costs money. Had I done that I would be in the hole even with the one kid showing up.

Well, time to put my chin up, hope for the best, and have fun whether 1 or 21 kids show up.

4. Good luck.....
At my 30th year reunion, a couple of the chearleaders showed up and we had a great time, as we did back in the 70's...

And I was the school Hippie....

7. I was the school scapegoat. Thank goodness that by the time
I was a cheerleader the school held tryouts based on ability rather than popularity.

8. some schools didn't hand out flyers? that sucks!
Parents at those schools would get angry knowing that. I remember your post weeks ago about pricing and I know what you're charging is more than fair.

Will you have the opportunity to do another one?

10. I am not sure. At this point we have to put our energy into getting ready
for competition season. We're starting in January instead of March this year so we have to get right into starting our dance.

It's gonna be awesome this year. A sort of hip hop thing but with poms. (With 5 kids everything we can do to fill up space on the floor is good, so poms are our friends.)

I thought about doing a dance clinic in the spring but I may find myself in the same boat. It is possible that parents just don't want to drive their kids all the way out here for a Saturday morning. :(

12. How early in the morning exactly?
Most parents with athletic kids are use to getting up on Saturdays for various events. My daughter is 5 and her good friend (also only 5) has to get up tomorrow at 6am to get ready to cheer for a soccer game! Crazy. I didn't click on your profile though so I don't know where you live. I'm in Texas and down here, we take cheerleading to a whole new, neurotic level.

Hip hop with poms...that sounds very cool. Did you ever watch the show "So You Think You Can Dance?"...the hip hop choreography had a ton of incredible new (new to me) moves that could easily be incorporated in a cheer dance routine.

14. We're in Maine, but we know that in the South cheering isn't a sport, it's
a religion. *g* NCA all the way!

I haven't caught that show you mentioned, but I do record the NCA and UCA dance team comps as well as cheer. I often prefer the dance choreography for my own kids. We just take out the grand jetes and pirouettes etc and make it more cheer-like.

The clinic is from 10am-1pm. The kids are supposed to bring a lunch and we'll watch some of the all-stars Worlds from this spring on TV while we eat.

I have pics from last year's clinic but I think more kids came to that one because it was free. http://www.geocities.com/aescougarcheer/clinic05.htm

17. I am unfortunately prone to spontaneous cheers.
Some kind of horrid PTSD from the stepdaughters' cheerleading days.

24. Reminds me of a cheer
I overheard at a fraternity party last year.

This boy was trying to hook up with one of the cheerleaders and he did a cheer for her...

Him- "Give me an A!!!!"

Her- "A!!!!" (smiles)

Him- "What's that spell?!?!"

Her- (Confused) "Umm..."

Him- "F*** me now!!! Yay!"

They danced after that, but who knows if it worked. lol :)
