the bases? I know it's traditional and gives everyone a chance to cheer. But practically, it's actually a waste of everyone's time.

1. A lot of stuff in baseball is a waste of time.
We just do it because it's tradition.

3. If you don't tag the bases, it's not a run.
Even Babe Ruth had to suck it up and hit the bases. Wasn't he the one that turned it into a victory hat waving event?

4. And another thing...

why make the pitcher throw 4 balls for an intentional walk? He should just be able to signal for it.

5. So the opposing team's fans have time to derisively boo the pitcher's lack
of courage. :o

6. Good point. And while we're bashing, the whole bit about arguing
a call by getting nose to nose with the ump while you scream at him only to have him give you the "you're tossed" signal. What predictable theatre. The best part of baseball is when a batter storms the mound after getting hit by a pitch, plays at the plate and stealing bases.

11. Sometimes managers do it because the WANT to get ejected
from the game. If their team is stinking the joint up, some of them just want to get the heck out of the dugout. And sometimes they do it to fire up their team (It works a lot of times).
