What does "Permalink" mean or do? I just noticed in the area where you re
reply or nominate for greatest - the lower right side of each post. I can't figure out what it is for.

1. Gives a permanent, citable link to every post.
If you click it and copy the URL of the post it links to, that link will exist and work for as long as DU does. :)

2. I am VERY computer illiterate - so i have to ask -copy a url - copy it to
where or how. How could I use it later if it stays at DU forever. Has it always been there and I am just now noticing it?

3. It's a fairly recent addition.
When you copy something (Ctrl+C 'copies' highlighted text), it goes to your "clipboard" - the place your computer stores small bits of information for the short-term. You can then "paste" that bit of information into a text document (Ctrl+V), which drops the bit of text you highlighted and copied earlier onto the text document in question. You can then save the document, and you have a hard copy of the copied text.

Also, you can copy from and paste into DU's message window, or basically anything on your computer that you can normally type in.
