5. JoePa a mafioso?
Are you kidding me? Why, because he's Italian American? The guy has a Master's degree from Brown and built a colossal addition to the Penn State library. Oh, and the Paterno family pays a professor's chair in the English department. I'm all for friendly sports banter, and their's plenty about JoePa to gripe about, but a mafioso? That borders on the offensive, and sits at least comfortably in the downright ignorant.

10. I'm chill...but it was an ignorant fucking joke
I'm Italian, and I'm not a very "PC" kinda guy, but calling the guy a mafioso based on his heritage is fucking bullshit, and not funny. Would you call a black coach a crack dealer with impunity, and say "hardy har, just a joke, chill out" when somebody rightly called you on it? I don't think so.

However, your crack at Joe Pa was as ignorant and stupid as the corresponding crack on a black coach. Don't try to make this an Italian/Black thing when it's just an ignorant joke sasquatch thing.

18. And you continue on this line of stupidities
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 11:18 PM by alcibiades_mystery
Just for the record, I think the Italian-Americans who protest the Sopranos are douchebags. I love the Sopranos. The fact is that there are mafioso. I know. I grew up with a bunch of them in NYC. Y'know the story: Friend's dad owns a "contracting business" and has numerous mysterious meetings with old guys, trucks it over to Staten Island now again for other meetings, and hangs out with the boys at the local social club. Seen it all.

But what you did was different. You took any old Italian American and said he was a mafioso. That's not the same thing that the Italian-American Anti-Defamation maniacs are complaining about. They pretend that there are no mafioso. You imply that everybody is a mafioso. These are equally stupid positions. That's just sore loser stupidity masquerading as humor. And you continue to laugh about it, as if you've said something clever. I'll call you on it, but it was just ignborance now compounded with pride and arrogance. And trying to defend your stupid comments by suddenly being the defender of black Americans? Please. Just end it. There's no reason to be a jerk just because Ohio State lost. It's getting embarrassing.

29. I gave up on Penn State when Joe try to force his loser son on Harrisburg
Scott Paterno is a little mini-George Bush. This asshole would be managing your local McDonald's if it wasn't for the fact that daddy is Penn State's football coach (and a diehard repuke).

Scott managed to not only get through college, but also Law School. Of course it helps that he went to Penn State and Dickenson Law School (part of Penn State - preferential treatment because of Daddy). But other than that, this idiot has spent his life slacking off. Even after graduating the guy never made more than $10k/year basically working jobs he would get because of Daddy.

Now normally I'm not one to rant about spoil rotton brats who make it through life on Daddy's dime but this one pisses me off because of what he tried to do to my family.

Well no, not directly but let me finish.

See, Scotty was living with his wife somewhere in the West Shore of Harrisburg when repukes decided they need someone to run against Democrat Tim Holden of PA-17. See Holden's district was merged into George Gekas district when PA redistricted in order to get rid of Holden. Only problem was George Gekas was a doddering old fool and this central PA region (which includes where my family lives) decided to keep Tim Holden.

And my parents ended up liking Holden. When Bethlehem Steel was bought out and the pensions were lost - Tim Holden showed up with the Steelworkers when they protested in Harrisburg (Rendell was a big help btw).

But repukes needed a name to run against Holden in 2004 so they decided to recruit Joe Paterno's loser kid Scott to run against Holden. This former hellraiser was a born again and would have the Paterno name to help knock off Holden. Only one problem - West Shore suburbs of Harrisburg is NOT PA-17. So how was the problem solved - somehow a family that makes about $10k/year managed to buy a $250,000 home on the East Shore in PA-17. Little bit of financial help from Daddy to buy a new home.

Somehow Scotty managed to win his primary (by 33% of the vote - 8 people ran) but fortunately PA-17 had some really smart folks who realized that even though they were republicans, it would be an embarrassment to have a jackass like Scott Paterno as your representative. My mother saw him at a local event and she said he looked like some ex-frat guy 10 years after college: Fat Gut, Sweaty, Disheveled. Couldn't even bother to tuck in his shirt. She's seen Tim Holden many times and said he was a crisp, clean smart looking guy and oh, she's a registered republican.

So the moral of my story is Joe Paterno can go fuck himself. The old fart needs to retire anyways because personally the Penn State football team has gone to hell (and believe me, growing up just off 11-15 in Perry County - we lived Penn State football). If Joe wants his kid to have a job, get him one at Penn State instead of using your name to help your idiot son get a job. It was an insult what he did and fortunately PA-17 was smart enough to see through it.

30. Blah blah blah
Point is, he lost, in heavily Republican central PA. With the Paterno name. So what the fuck are you even complaining about?

Joe Paterno built a massive extension to the Penn State library that contributes to the education the people of Pennsylvania at a PUBLIC institution. The Paterno chair in English is held by one of the most high profile liberal intellectuals in the country, who, I might add, has led the charge against the Horowitzes of the world and their conservative attack on academe. The Paterno Family foundation has gifted hundreds - maybe thousands - of books to the Penn State library, and they are not selected based on political content, but on the expertise of subject area librarians. Penn State for many years (and perhaps still) had the highest graduation rate of Division I football players in the country, and the highest African American graduation rate of players as well. Paterno benches kids that don't demonstrate a commitment to the scholar side of scholar-athlete. Compare the laughable side of that in the ACC. Joe Paterno - yes, a Republican, yes, a Bush supporter - has put his money where his mouth is, and done more to advance public education in the Commonwealth than many liberals combined. I can forgive him supporting his imbecile son in a state house race, because by their DEEDS you shall know them, and his deeds are far more liberal than anything I've seen from plenty of all-talk-no-action liberals.

31. If he was that concerned he'd speak out against an unjust war
Unfortunately not everyone in Pennsylvania can go to Penn State. Many of them end up in a war and speaking of another great record that our beloved commomwealth of Pennsylvania owns is one of the highest death toll of soldiers from our state. And recently there seems to be a rash of them coming outof the Keystone state.

If Paterno wants to show compassion maybe he should stop lending his name to $2k/plate fundraisers for George Bush. Believe me, those Deeds I will also remember him by too!

Oh, and I'm not expecting JoePa to be some anti-war crusader. But maybe he could do those fundraisers for something a little more productive than to support this regime!
