What's your favorite anti-abortion bumper sticker?

The above is similar to the one I saw reading "She's a child, not a choice." with a picture of a little girl on it.

So I innocently whipped this up, out of lack of time:

1. I saw one once and liked it so much I bought it.
It says: Guns don't kill people, Radical pro-lifers kill people.

6. Hilarious isn't it?
I saw that bumper sticker 5 times today just driving to Walgreen's. I'll occasionally honk and they look startled. These are the same dimwits with "Honk if you love Jesus" everywhere on their cars. If you honk, you can almost hear the cocking of their guns over the traffic noise.

7. If by "favorite," you mean "most vile":
"Real feminists don't kill babies."

That one is by far the most offensive I've ever encountered. It actually made the driver of the vehicle I was riding in when I saw it--who was a Georgian Southern Baptist conservative Democrat who didn't love the subject of choice so much, mind you--ask if maybe we should cut the anti-choice driver off at the earliest opportunity.

24. I find that incredibly vile also.
I can't even articulate all the reasons, but REAL feminists don't want to take control of other women's choices. Real feminists don't want to limit other women.

41. This got me thinking about an incident in my life last year...
when a scary, militant anti-choicer crashed a free public lecture being given by one of the lit professors from the university at which I did my undergraduate work. It's unusual for that kind of lecture to happen in my city; and we were very lucky to have that particular scholar speak at our library. This crazed person actually posited that the European feminists of the late 18th, early 19th century had some special aversion to abortion and objected to it on feminist grounds, and actually started asking the prof if she "accepted" the alleged values of these feminists (the lecture had been about Frankenstein, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and travel literature--not so much about feminism or Shelley's views on it). The anti-choice person kept calling the feminism embraced by Shelley and others "nature-based" feminism, (what?) which this person considered the only "true" feminism, as opposed to the second wave of feminism in America, which this person claimed was only based in securing reproductive freedom for women (the anti-choicer kept calling this "kind" of feminist philosophy "abortion-based feminism"--GOD). That incident led me to wonder if there isn't an entire movement out there trying to pervert feminist perspectives and honestly convince women that "true" feminists were "originally" opposed to abortion...back in the EIGHTEENTH CENTURY. How very Rovian. And how vile. I am just so repulsed to imagine that there could be people trying to give their anti-choice opinions and perspectives an intellectual justification that is based in the history of philosophy, literature and scholarship.

9. "Abortion Stops A Beating Heart"
Um...yeah. You see, that's the point. If it didn't, we'd have to find other methods.

"Abortion: A child can live without it!"

Once again, obviously so. All children alive were not aborted. Obviously no pro-choice people think "Well, what's the problem? I'm sure nearly everyone was aborted!"

35. That one is the most vile.
This retired social worker always immediately thinks, "Well, child abuse stops a beating heart, Moron, when the parents wind up abandoning the child - or worse!"

Had at least two infants found in a trashcan (fortunately, in time to save them). They had been dumped there shortly after birth - one in the trashcan in the women's room of a local hospital.

44. A lot of other things stop beating hearts, too, figuratively and literally
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 04:12 AM by BlueIris
Such as the agony of living as a woman in a society that has no respect for your right to control your own medical decisions without being brutalized, neglected or shamed, that considers the "life" of a blastocyst more important than yours, or the life of the child you were forced or coerced into having more important than your own health and well-being. The situation of a person, particularly a very young woman, forced to go through with a pregnancy her body isn't medically stable enough to support also stops a beating heart. But, of course, we must always think of the babies in the trashcans first, not the lives of the living women who produced them. Sick, fucked up shit, man. I really hope those contributing to this thread are taking ACTION to oppose the infringements to choice they claim to care so passionately about.

45. Amen.
I'm on your side.

I care about women in this culture (I am one, actually) - someone who came of age in the 70's and didn't think I would have to be fighting for reproductive rights like this AGAIN.

And I care about the drastic tragedies that happen when we start rolling back those rights.

I started contributing monthly to NARAL Pro-Choice America, because this 47-year-old ma has found them to be a very effective lobbying/educational group, that keeps the issue on the forefront.

The big 18 wheelers - every one I see has it painted on the back (not a bumper sticker) that says "It is a child, not a choice"

Covenant is a huge trucking company, and I have yet to see one of their trucks without that on the back.

46. "Christmas" was originally a pagan celebration
of the winter solstice, hence the decorated evergreen tree which has nothing whatsoever to do with the bible.

One of the early popes decided to appropriate the pagan celebrations and arbitrality made Jesus's birthday occur during the winter solstice festivities. This was to try to convert the pagans, which I guess eventually worked.

Christmas trees, mistletoe, yule logs, gift giving, feasting, etc. -- all PAGAN stuff!!!!
