Ever buy a new CD, and immediately have one song jump out and get you?
I had one of those experiences today. "Counting Down the Hours" by Ted Leo and the Pharmacists earned immediate earworm status. This doesn't happen much with me and new music; it usually takes a few listens for me to pick out my favorite songs. But this song is so well made - musically and lyrically - that it demanded attention from the start.

Has this happened to any of you lately?

1. not for a long time
I haven't bought a CD in years. I miss that one-son thrill, I really do.

2. I know what you mean
I don't buy a whole lot of music myself these days. I try to limit purchases to lesser-known bands and smaller labels - that way, I'm paying for talent and good music rather than hype and overpackaging.

4. Right now...
I'm on a Ted Leo and the Pharmacists/Beta Band kick.

That could change in an instant. :)

5. Sometimes...
Most recently, the song "Image Of The Invisible" on the new Thrice album had me hooked on the first listen.

7. Same band: "Under a Killing Moon", I think it was
Very similar experience, except I saw them play live before I'd ever heard one of their songs.

6. Sounds like grounds for a product liability suit.
Actually, though, twice. "Prayer for the Cowgirl" off Emmylou Harris's CD of that name, and a song called "Reunited" off Jummy Dale Gilmore's "Spinning Around the Sun" CD. It's a duet with he and Lucinda Williams.

And now for something completely different: an interesting, unrelated article that I found while doing a google search to figure out which part of the brain responded most directly to music: http://www.washington.edu/newsroom/news/2001archive/11-01archive/k112701.html

The human brain is quite an amazing thing... :)
