This time last year...things were so different.
There was a slight sense of hopefullness, and anticipation. I was volunteering at the bulk mail center for the Kerry campaign. I went to a few appearances by him, and actually got to shake his hand a few times.

How much things have changed in this year. We didn't think they could get much worse. But, at least the media seems to be waking up. Too bad they weren't as awake this time last year.

1. Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing the other day
Gawd, remember the debates?

Sigh....

Well, here we are.

2. Yes, after those debates I wondered how anyone could vote for the guy.
At least we seem to be moving in a direction where they are being held accountable. The biggest leak in the Clinton administration was on a dress. Maybe 2006 will bring change.

BTW, I have a book by the guy you quoted in your sigline. As I remember it, it was quite good. I will have to find it.

:)

12. Accountable, indeed. Visualize indictments, jail time. Justice.
Yeah, Tich Nhat Hanh is great. Very inspirational.

:hi:

5. Gas was about a dollar cheaper, too.
I feel a change coming on. I hope I am right.

6. It does seem long ago.
I have a picture I took with my cell phone at one of the local Kerry rallys. I unfortunately didn't press the button until he turned to walk away. Sad, really.

7. Wow...it has been nearly a year...
I remember I was skipping at least two classes a week to put in an extra hour or two at the Kerry headquarters and to go to his rallies. I remember I scammed my way into the VIP section at the Kerry/Clinton rally in Philadelphia and thought "this is it, we're gonna win."

I didn't know then that just one year later I would have lost another friend in Iraq

13. Yeah, I just saw that I have been on DU a year.
And I was thinking about it.

I did a scrapbook with all the mailings from the Kerry campaign, and all my passes from when I volunteered. I have to say, despite losing the election, it was a rewarding experience.

8. I agree with havocmom, things have gotten so weird so fast,
it seems much longer. I despair when I think about what can occur.

Believe it or not, I have always been an optimist, now I'm on depression/anxiety meds. Not Helping, the Assholes must GO!

10. I had so much hope this time last year
I was cleaning out the garage on Friday and came across the only two Kerry/Edwards signs I have left. I thought about how ferociously pissed I was when the idiots in my neighborhood kept stealing my signs and then the Kerry rallies I went to. I honestly thought things would be better now. They aren't. I'm not the same person I was 5,4,3,2,1 years ago. Not even one month ago. I'm tired and I'm beyond angry. I'm cynical and I'm losing energy. Just being honest.

11. Oh Yeah, and Hunter S. Thompson killed himself on my 43rd birthday.
Man, that birthday stunk! But not quite a year ago--2/20/05
