only in reverse. I am straight but as it turns out tonight, I have found out that a friend of mine is gay. He is spoken for but he has complimented me on my appearance. I take it as a compliment because of who he is and because of the caliber of his character. Which is funny because I say that I want to be attractive and would feel better about myself if I were. The truth though is that it usually makes me feel uncomfortable when a man "compliments" me. I guess that is because I rarely, if ever have gotten a nice respectful compliment on my appearance by a heterosexual male friend or aquaintance.
It is more like "Hey baby, nice tits." or from a man who never even said hello at work (at a coworkers bare birthday party) "You know, you are really hot and I enjoy looking at you every day at work." or something about how I am (unintentionally) really turning them on or that they want to have sex with me. Of course there is the turned on stare and the breast stare as well. Almost all of these compliments are from guys that I would have no intention of dating if I were single, even if they didn't make such a forward comment.
The message that I get is not that they respect me for something but that they see me as a sex object.
