This is progmom (DU post-it portrait art)

I wanted to draw progmom because she is one of my favourite DUers, and she is also very beautiful to boot. Nevertheless, her picture was very difficult to draw, because of the sassy expression she is wearing in the photo I worked from, and also because of the way her hair is obscuring part of her face. Her face has very elegant lines, and in line art I would never be able to do justice to her gorgeous hair, but please see what you think:



Cleofus started it, by drawing Shell Beau on a post-it note. I then tried my hand at it by drawing Heidi, which can be seen here:

Thanks! progmom's picture was quite hard to do. I first tried to sketch the outline of her face first, so I could draw her features afterward, like I did when I drew Heidi. But this did not work for me, so I eventually rubbed out what I had and started again. In the end I concentrated on getting her glasses right first and then worked my way out from there. I think that worked quite well!

31. doing portraits is a keystone

of the artists existance...and this is part of the fun of it all...i am not a great portrait artist...but it is one of those things that people always want me to do for them...from high school...to overseas in the military to the workplace...i've always enjoyed trying to capture my fellow travellers...at work i multitask several different operations on three different computer screens...in between i doodle...usually i have left them on the desk for the next shift to admire...and they usually end up in the trashcan...maybe now with the advent of scanner technology these heretofore throwaway art pieces will find new life!

32. It's a new thing for me

I've always been handy with a pen, but I've never really tried to draw a subject before, and a face is probably one of the harder things to draw.

I'm finding the trick is to draw what you see, not what you think you see!
