20,000? Man, that is heartbreaking
They say that 20,000 plus could be dead in Pakistan. That is just mind boggling. It is really depressing and my heart goes out to the people out there who are suffering at the heavy loss they are dealing with.

1. It'll be a one-day wonder on the news
Then we'll be back to gas prices, New Orleans, Bush's POTUS pick, yada yada yada.
People die in their thousands overseas and unless there were a few Americans involved, the US media pretty much ignores them.

2. I just saw that. I agree, mind boggling.
That large number of dead is something I just can't fathom.

3. It is mind-boggling
sadly building codes aren't what they should be in many parts of the world.

4. It's massive.
Add on top of that all of the wounded, homeless, orphaned...

On a side note, there was a picture of a man on cnn.com smiling as he was rescued. He was wearing a white rubber bracelet (what do they stand for?) and a LiveStrong.

5. Yeah, it makes ya wonder when so many die at once, due to a
natural disaster. It's hard to get my brain around those incredibly high death toll numbers. It seems to be happening more and more lately, too.
Tsunami, earthquakes, hurricanes, landslides, floods....

haven't we?

I can't recall a time when we've had so many things happen in the world successively where thousands died.

8. Yes, I have wondered if this is Mother Earth's way of balancing
things out on the planet. Is there something "higher" being played out here, or is everything just random? Hmmm... I don't know.

Sometimes it's hard to find the meaning in suffering, loss and death.

It makes me sad for all those in pain. Afterall, we are all connected.

7. They seem to be much more efficient in compiling death toll numbers
from natural disasters, here in the US, we still don't have any answers a month after Katrina.

Yes, these large numbers of dead are horrendous & hard to fathom.

9. I was thinking the same thing along those lines
Ever notice that in natural disasters in 3rd world type countries, the death toll usually keeps rising well above the initial prediction? But here, it always gets much smaller?

of natural disasters? :(

This is heartrending. Tsunamis and hurricanes and earthquakes. :( :( :(

I do feel a need to donate, however. I suppose Doctors Without Borders will be on the front lines, won't they???
