Have I spoiled my pet?
I've counted, she has about 60 bird toys I've bought over the last few years that are still in good shape.

What stuff do you spoil your babies with? :)

3. Spoil?
I wouldn't call it that -- NEVER! 60 bird toys is a minimum. We have at least that many furry mice and a bunch of fish. And we spent a ton of time and money making this "Catnip Cove" tree for them and buying matching fish toys for it.

4. Did you build it yourself?
That looks fabulous. Is it from a kit or did you design it yourself and everything? I like the "V" shape of the cushions. You could make a fortune selling those things. . .

I have a small pack of tiny dogs that push each other to spy on the neighborhood. Something vertical might work. Maybe this summer I'll try to have someone build one for me.

5. Thanks. We designed and built it.
The covers come off and wash. The cushions underneath are attached with velcro, so they can easily be replaced. The cover of the house lifts off for cleaning.

No one would want to pay for us to build them. It was VERY expensive and time-consuming to build. It's all oak and we sanded the daylights out of it so it's like furniture. Of course, it would be cheaper in a different wood.

6. That is an awesome creation!
Our kitties would love it! But alas, we don't have the strength, talent or energy to build that.

Thanks.
We're pretty proud of it. Hubby got new toys when he refaced the kitchen cabinets. Now and then he makes something cool just so he can use the toys. :)

We did seriously need a new cat tree and didn't want to get another carpeted one. We found some that were OK for around $250, which we thought was too high. The materials ended up costing more than that, but at least we got something we like. And we got a lot of "quality time" together.

11. You're a genius.

I think it would make an interesting summer project. I'd have to adjust for the difference between cats and dogs that think they're cats though.

On edit: I think someone might pay for one, or maybe the plans for it. I'd worry about my pets using cheap, plastic stands from the pet store.

14. Naw ... we did have some design problems.
Had to turn them into features. It's definitely a fun project. Perhaps we could sell the plans. Neither one of us can draw very well, though -- we'd have to get help with that.

What kind of dogs do you have?

20. Mutts - I think.
They're like crosses between Silkies and Yorkies. They're really barking cats.

8. My cat won't go near his kitty perch...it's in the basement, gathering
dust. Merlin's spot is smack dab in the middle of the couch, bed...wherever the sun is shining best. :hi:

10. That's always the risk with cats.
They decide what they like. We lucked out. Two of them use the indoor tree and two of them use the outdoor shelves. But they're not spoiled! Merlin in the sun reminds me of a song from Garrison Keillor's Songs of the Cat, "Cats may safely sleep" ...

Here, in the room where the sun is shining,
two little cats on the rug reclining.
Slowly their eyes are closing.
Now they are sweetly dozing,
curled up together in a heap.
Two little cats are fast asleep.

...

There, in the square that the sun is making,
two little cats from their naps are waking,
yawning and stretching slowly,
washing their face in holy
pleasure of warm and sunny days,
Purring a little song of praise.

:loveya:

17. Yeah. We have a screened patio.
They like to sit on the shelves and watch for lizards to walk up the screen. It's pretty much a kitty paradise.

7. Jessie gets a new "squeaky baby" every couple of months or so.
Her best Corgi friend is always taking the squeakies out of them when he comes over. It's gotten to where she hides "squeaky baby" when he comes over. :hi:

9. Switch 'em out every week and keep 'em clean. They'll last a white! Unless
they are made of wood, in which case billions of bacteria are probably freely breeding in them. I'd throw those out...

18. Yes, that's what I do......
rotate them and wash them before I put them in her cage. I throw out the old toys that could be a hazard. :)

12. We make chenille toys for them to toss around.
We get colorful, fluffy pipe cleaners, tuck in the sharp ends, and wrap them around a pencil to make a curly spring. They love to play catch with them ... but they're NOT spoiled.

13. 60 bird toys? That's pretty bad....
I buy tissue paper whenever it's on sale. I take a sheet, crumple it and add it to the pile until it's about 21/2 ft. high. They love to sleep in it, hide in it, and run into it. It's kinda funny to see a little black nose sticking out of a pile of white tissue paper.

15. My cat never plays with toys we buy. He much prefers
twist ties and the rings off of milk jugs. I like when he carries around twist ties cause it makes him look like he's got a funny mustache.

19. HAHA.
Mine likes to make a mustache out of the little black snakes that get into the patio every now and then. EWWWW! I bet you find a bumper crop of milk jug rings and twist ties when you pull out the refrigerator. One of ours likes to play with little foil balls made out of Hershey's kisses wrappers. They must reproduce because we always find a bunch under the sofa and appliances.
