My Dad came home, he was on the boat and fell while going through the hatch. He landed on his temple...it's all open and swollen up so much. But he won't go to the hospital...he's one of those old timers. I'm trying to tell him a smack like that to your temple warrants a trip to emergency but he won't believe me. I worried what if he has a concusion or something?

1. No kidding, he should go |
|
I think some people are just afraid that they really will find something that's wrong and they just don't want to deal with it.

2. Concussion isn't too much of a worry. |
|
Bleeding is. There's some awfully delicate stuff in the temple area. Best to check it out.

3. Nah... pour some whiskey on it... patch it with fishing line |
|
if its really bad. Otherwise slap a bandaid on it and call the paramedics if he passes out.
You don't worry about scars when you're old, but make sure he puts something on it to fight infection... anti-biotic cream or somesuch.

4. If he won't go to the doctor, threaten to call an |

ambulance. That's how I got DH to the emergency room when he had what I thought was a stroke. I did call the ambulance because he wouldn't go and as it turns out he did have a stroke. You can't be too careful with the elderly. There could be a reason he fell too, which has nothing to do with his needing first aid as a result of maybe fainting.
