What the hell is going on upstairs?
It sounds like they're playing pool on the floor. But that's not it.

On the shared porch, there is a compact commercial carpet extractor. It is not a Rug Doctor that you'd rent at a supermarket, but it serves the same purpose. It is not intended for home use, though -- offices, banks and carpeted areas of retail establishments, including...supermarkets. It is clearly labeled, via Sharpie, with the name of a local supermarket -- implying it's their extractor, which makes me wonder:

1. Why is there a carpet extractor that belongs to a supermarket on my porch?
2. Why would college boys who rent an apartment with minimal carpet need an extractor?

This can't possibly be good.

2. Was there a party over the weekend?
Perhaps there's, um, some bodily emanation that needs a clean-up.

6. Still...a (possibly stolen, at the very least borrowed) commercial
extractor? For a rental with crappy carpeting?

(I was not around the entire weekend, but no parties I'm aware of.)

7. Well...it beats paying for one.
I guess a friend of a friend hooked them up.

Now, if this machine pulls the carpet out of the floor, there's another emergency to deal with. This could get interesting.

8. I've seen some carpet by the side of the road here.
A few weeks back...

Should I be worried?

22. Well, maybe they ripped it off over the weekend...
And now don't know what to do with it....

I remember me and this other guy ripped off a 40 foot ladder one night, took it back to my apartment and ran it down the side of the steps going into the basement...

It sounded like a good time after Thursday night snapp's night...

We took it back two days later....

16. Fenris doesn't qualify as a "dude," at least not by my definition.
Unless he's taken to strutting in too-low jeans, backwards ball caps and whatever has replaced "co-ed naked" T-shirts in 2005.

15. Landlord? Cleaning?

My landlord is...hands-off. He paid me $10 an hour (honor system) to clean the apartment prior to move-in.

Nah, the kids still live there.

18. I remember asking myself this once...
I lived in a basement apartment at the time, with a group house of I think six people above...and one afternoon there was this incredible racket. I said to myself, "what the fuck are they doing, playing soccer in the living room?" I went outside to make sure there wasn't some emergency in the house, and I could see in the front window...they were playing soccer in the living room.

They're playing mini-golf in the living room. x(

23. I do property maintenance. MOVE!! Move now before.....
a flood of water comes cascading through your ceiling. The number of days before one of these guys flushes a golf ball or tears a faucet off the wall are numbered and few.

I have physical proof that stupidity is the only unlimited force in the universe and it's attracted to college boys.

If you're lucky it will be fresh water. Otherwise expect your own personal New Orleans.

24. I've had water problems already...
A radiator in the upper went bad and leaked into an (unused) bedroom. Plumber confirmed it was nothing the kids did -- just an old radiator.

Eh, I'll probably be out in the spring...
