Not a surprise, Tim McCarver said something really stupid tonight
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 01:23 AM by KitchenWitch
while broadcasting the Angels/Skankees game.

He said, "Speed has really slowed the game of baseball down!"

I am not kidding!

1. The Spirit of Yogi Berra... would've been nice if Bob Uecker was in the
booth, to scratch his head and say "How do you figure?"

4. Yeah, but when Yogi Berra says stuff like that, it is charming
When McCarver does, it is just stupid.

2. In the ninth...
He said the angles would rather the Yankees score 2 runs by singles than by hitting a double.....

Me and the Mrs. Looked at each other and said, at the same time, what the fuck does that mean....

7. He's just painful to listen too.
Just a motormouth with very little to add to the game.

10. McCarver caught guys like Gibson and Carlton
Took a few foul tips off the mask, don'cha know. :silly:

I'd guess that by the comment about two runs on singles he meant it's better for the defense if the offense doesn't get extra-base hits because there're more ways to get outs with a runner on first, thus it's easier to hold the offense to two runs. But it's still a damned silly thing to say, since obviously the Angels didn't want to allow any runs.

Buck said something that made me want to throw the remote at the teevee. Something like, "Koufax made it to the Hall of Fame tipping his pitches." Silly boy. In the first place, guys like Koufax don't tip pitches; they're just too well-schooled for that. In the second place, Koufax had only two pitches — fast ball and curve ball — but he threw both better than just about anybody in history. So even if he did tip 'em, nobody could hit 'em.

11. I remember back in grae school....
One of the teachers brought in a TV and had us watch some of the world series....

Back then, all the games were played during the day... And the World Series would have been over by now....

So he wanted us to see the greatest pitcher of all time....

Sandy Koufax...

12. Greatest left-hander, MAYbe
Greatest of his time, no question.

I gotta be honest — even though he was my idol from the age of 9 until... hell, he's still my idol.
