HIP HIP HOORAY!! THE SKANKEES LOSE!!!
Yes!!
My dream, as a White sox and Astros fan...comes a step closer to fruition now, with the elimination of the hated Skankees.

We get to face a tired Angels on no rest...and the angels are the weaker of the teams, so we get an easy ride to the first White sox pennant in my lifetime!!

Now, if last sunday is any indication, the 'Stros got heart...they are hungry, and they want it...BAD!!

They refuse to lay down and die...and so it is quite possible to knock off the Cardinals...who folded like a house of Cards (pun intended) last year.

If all that happens, I gotta root for a seven-game world Series, and whichever team comes out the winner, I'll be happy then, as I am a longtime fan of both the White Sox and the Astros!

Imagine...I have waited ALL MY LIFE to see either of my favorite teams win a pennant! Imagine both of them doing it in the same freaking year!!

OMG!!!

White Sox? Astros?
It just won't be the same.
Yankees...the team you love to hate.

18. Oh, Well....
You'd feel the same way if you were a White Sox fan. For years...watching the same team always get lucky just when they needed to, always screwing over your chances...never letting anyone else have a fair chance...acting like it is their DIVINE RIGHT to be in the world Series every damned year...No, sorry, but I hate the Skankees, and I'm damned glad they got SERVED.

Put them back in their place...take them down a peg, like they belong. I have a definite aversion to pinstripes.

I wasn't even alive then, but I STILL do not forgive the Skankees for the 1950's...or for 1964, constantly frustrating my beloved White Sox!

and hard enough they might possibly have won in those years (after all, teams beat the Yankees all the time, it's not like they're some invincible black hoarde from the gates of hell or something), and you're just looking for a scapegoat. (just my opionion and probably 90% wrong) - "Skankees" is still childish in my view.

Edit: I don't mean "childish" as a personal attack on you, just that the idea seems that way to me.

8. Well, as a Red Sox fan, I cannot shed tears for the team we love to hate!
I admire Yankees fans though, they are loyal like Red Sox fans. They can criticize their team, but no one else can!

I sorta wished the Cubs could have gone all the way, simply because I have a soft spot in my heart for the underdogs. I think it would have done the city of Chicago and surrounding environs a world of good, too.

I suppose I will root for the American League, but watch the games more as an exercise in the delightfulness of the sport, seeing as I don't have a vested interest in any of the teams remaining!

As a lifelong Yankee fan, and friend to many Fenway bred boys, nobody understands the pride we put into our Yanks like Sox Fans do...almost a shame we're required to hate eachother.

But I say screw that I drink with em anyway.

You know who pisses me off MORE THAN ANYTHING THOUGH?? People who hate the Yanks just cause it's the "in" thing to do when the subject of baseball comes up.

People like gee I dunno.....let's just say the only person I've seen on this thread who has room to gloat at the loss of the Yankees at the moment is the person with the Angels avator.

(Okay you too MADem)

With that good luck to all of the final four teams. They have all earned their place.

11. Trendy Yankee hating...there's a slew of it here
So rare to see a DU'er actually stand up for the Yanks...How refreshing.

Well, I'm awake because I'm still digesting the fact that Hideki Matsui, one of my favorite ballplayers on the team I've been rooting for 40 years left 8 men on base tonight with his 5 helpless at-bats. It's after three in the morning and I'm still processing A-Rod meltdowns, outfield collisions, bloop singles and missed hit-and-run signs.

Just another example of how rooting for the Yankees is NOT like rooting for General Motors. It's baseball, you Yankee Hating Fools, not a rigged corporate game. No matter how obscene the payroll, the game of baseball holds the power, and it is the most quirky, cruel and exquisite sport ever imagined by man.

Heh read at your own risk. This is what happens when you get on the nerves of a guy who has been a Yank fan for over 20 years (I had on pinstripes before I could even talk in complete sentences)

Donnie Baseball was my first role model. Unfortunately when I get wound up I lack his ability to be cool.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=4133321&mesg_id=4133357

Oh that crushed me too even before that to see A-Rod (who was my gf's fav player since he was on the Mariners-her home team-since turned Yankee fan due to A-rod's changeover) ground into a double play.

I don't care what anyone says the man has earned his stripes absolutely.

Matsui, just the name to me commands respect. It broke my heart to see that lash of his turn into a foul ball...I screamed when I saw that happen.

All in all though, the Angels earned it enough said, I as always was willing to be nice and give credit where credit was due then all of a sudden the haters have to come out of hiding.

As one other DU'er said it best though you know you have the greatest team when other people are happier to see your team lose and point that out more than they can actually be happy about their own team claiming any victories.

I like your spunk man spoken like a true seasoned fan. Someday I will be proud to also say "I've been a Yankee fan for 40 years..."

Not many haters will be saying the same of their teams I bet.

Donnie Baseball...Tell me you don't still get chills whenever you see the replay of the dinger he hit against the Mariners in '95. That was the first time since the 1970's I heard that inimitable postseason Stadium roar. The full-bodied roaring, boisterous, triumphant sound of New York City at its happiest. The Donnie Baseball chants that followed! Three innings of lights-out relief from an unknown pitcher named Mariano Rivera and a walk-off homer in the rain from Leyritz. What a fucking night THAT was...

23. I Beg To Differ
I have been a White Sox fan for 34 years (all my life) and an Astros fan for 20 years (since my family moved to Texas) and I have always been proud of my teams, and proud to be a fan and a supporter, of my teams.

Yeah, we might not have any pennants to show for it....and that makes MY loyalty all the stronger than yours, Yankee fan. It's fucking EASY to love a winner! Try being a long-suffering fan like me!

Neither of my teams has EVER won a pennant in my lifetime! Yet, still, I am a fan a nd a supporter...and proud of my teams!

I have been there through the good and bad, the thick and the thin.

I was there in 1977...I was there in the heartbreak that was 1983, when the Orioloes beat the White Sox (never have forgiven Baltimore for that, either...hate them almost as bad as the Yankees.)

I was there for my 'Stros in 1986, and to this day, I hate the Mets for that 16-inning heartbreaker!

NOW...I am happy the Yankees lost...for more reasons than just the smug, corporatists elitist image of the Yankees. I am happy they lost, because I want the WEAKER team to go up against the White Sox...I want an EASY RIDE into a pennant! The Yankees have way too much history with screwing over the White Sox just when it would hurt most. I could not BEAR losing to the goddamn Yankees yet again!

I'd rather take my chances with the Angels, as I percieve them to be the weaker of the two teams that might have faced the White Sox.

That said, I'd have also preferred the Padres to have knocked off the Cardinals, but that was a bit of a tall order, for a crap team like the Padres...though the Padres will always hold a special place in my heart for 1984...because it was a matter of pride...and still is...I cannot BEAR the idea of the Cubs winning a pennant, in my lifetime, before the White Sox do. and it almost happened in 1984, till the Padres saved the day, by coming back from being down 2-0 to win the 5-game series 3-2. Never will forget Steve Garvey's home run in that last game!

anyway, in spite of you sour-grapes Yankees fans...I do not hate the Yankees just to hate them or just because it is the "in" thing. I have legitimate reasons, built up over YEARS, for hating the Yankees.

And it is SO EASY to root for a winner. So your fan loyalty doesn't mean crap. Try being a loyal fan like me...never seen EITHER of my teams win a pennant, in my entire lifetime...and here I stand now...on the brink of seeing BOTH OF THEM DO IT IN THE SAME YEAR!!! and then have to face each other in the World Series!!

I'm just about going crazy with joy for my teams right now!!

22. Like Hell!!
Rooting for the Skankees is EXACTLY like rooting for General Motors!

They (the Skankees) are the baseball epitome of corporatist, elitist bastards who strut around believing it to be their divine right to be in the World Series every goddamn year, and, even if I wasn't a White Sox fan, with extra reasons to hate the Yankees (long bitter history of the White Sox getting shafted by the Yankees) I would still hate the Yankees, because they represent the right-wing in baseball. Conformist, elitist, conservative pinstripes, rich, corporatists, how dare ANYONE ever beat US?!?!? That is the attitude of the Skankees, and their fans.

I despise the Yankees. Goddamn it, I have NEVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFETIME seen either of my favorite teams win a pennant! NEVER ONCE!! Can you Yankee fans say that? Do you know what it is to be a long-suffering White Sox/Astros fan??

32. Trendy my ass
I am going on 40 and have hated them just as long. It's the principled thing to do. It is a matter of conscience and good taste.

And they are like GM, not because of the payroll, but because of the entire aura of entitlement and smugness they bring to the field.

I love how A-rod chokes in the clutch. He is the worst asshole they have, along with Randy Johnson.

"Entitlement" and "smugness," and then you name two Yankees who have never done anything in pinstripes and are not even popular in New York. Nobody gives these players more shit than Yankee fans, but how would you know that, sitting on the other side of the country as you are?

As for smug, you equate your muddle-headed feelings with principle and good taste...Smugness award for Zomby, anyone?

14. Well, back in the day when baseball was a bit more regional
The rivalry was established, so I guess we just have to keep it up! Tradition!!!

And I'm with you, I'll drink with a NYY fan too--it's all sports, and all good!

I cannot get into the 'major hate' mode like some, it just is a waste of energy. And I can admire a great play by any player, regardless of uniform, but I will back my team, because, hey, they're my team and have been since childhood!

And that was a loooooooong time ago!

20. Excuse Me
I do not hate the Yankees, just because it is the "in" thing. I have reasons!!
There is a long, bitter history between my beloved White sox, and the damn Skankees...no White Sox fan can possibly avoid hating the Skankees!

Additionally, as a Sox fax, I hate the Orioles for 1983, never have forgiven them, and I never will.

Also...as an Astros fan, I hate the Mets, for 1986. I have never forgiven them, either, and I never will. Likewise, I hate the Cardinals for last year, denying my beloved Astros their first-ever pennant!

I have REASONS for the teams I hate.

And, with the Skankees, there's even more to it....They are the epitome of corporatist, elitist bastards who strut around believing it is their DIVINE RIGHT to be in the World Series every year, and I just LOVE seeing that sort get took down a few notches.

24. That Is What I Said
The Angels are the weaker team, between the Yankees and the Angels. I stand by that.
And now, with colon injured...with Santana having pitched all those innings last night...he's out for a while. and you guys get no rest before facing my White sox...and that after two cross-country flights!

I got exactly what I wanted outta that series, I wanted it to go five games so you'd be good and tired, with no rest and a gruelling travel schedule!

Yeah, you guys have a hell of a bullpen, and I wanted to see it worn out, ragged, and tired coming into Chicago. I got my wish.

Now I only hope it translates into a few easy wins for the white Sox!

Will we sweep the Angels? Doubt it. But I want an early advantage for my team. Looks like I got it.

BOTH my favorite teams...the Sox and the 'Stros...have NEVER in my lifetime, won pennants. You can't say that about the Angels.

IT'S OUR GODDAMN TURN!!!
