I learned this on DU by the way, I hope I get it right.

I don't know if this started on the Ellen when she came out or if it was already an inside joke inside the GLBT community but when you come out you get a free toaster. On the show Ellen came out at the end Melissa Etheridge walks on camera and gives Ellen a toaster sorta like back in the day when you got a toaster or a blender for opening a checking account at a bank.

Something like that.

6. I have a funny story about

National coming out day.

My brother who attended the University of Texas here in Austin had a professor come out to her class on that day several years ago. I thought it was really cool, I mean... here she was lecturing a HUGE classroom of students and she came out to all of them.

My Brother came home and told my fundie Mom about it which promted an angry phone call and a leter to University officials. Guess our Mom didn't know who LIBERAL UT is!
