Poll question: Do you know how to use a door?

Every single day I get people who knock on my office door.
Naturally, I say in a welcoming voice, "Come in!"

Most of these people are pros when it comes to the highly complicated skill of using a doorknob to open a door so the whole process goes quickly and smoothly.

A surprising number of them--many college educated--just stand there even after I have said "come in" more than once and continue to stand there until I come open the door for them.

So what gives? How difficult is it to open an unlocked, regular old door? What am I missing?

Which brings me to the poll question:
Do you know how to use a door?

7. Good point. I should put the old "Please come in" sign up again.
That way when they look through the glass and see me waving them in they can cross-check it with the sign on the door.

10. Sometimes I push on "pull" doors or pull on "push" doors.
I also walked into the door at the gas station and smacked my face on it, last month.

13. That's the cartoon that flashes before my eyes each time it happens.

(I know, we've all done it. But it happens all the time and they can see me waving at them and saying "come in." I just needed to vent.)

20. I have just the opposite problem.
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 08:09 PM by hippywife
My door isn't closed often but when it is there is good reason. I constantly have people just come by, open it up and stick their head in.
Or I'll catch them going in as I am coming down the hall. If I'm not there the door has to be shut for privacy policy reasons which means they are not supposed to just go in.
