Once again, I am perplexed about HATRED.
And this time, it's over BASEBALL.

You all know I am a huge Angels' fan. I've loved baseball since I was tiny. I've rooted fervently against teams, but I don't understand hating a baseball team.

I also get disliking a team's fan base because of perceived or actual behavior (examples: irrational arrogance, or rioting after a big win/loss). But hating a group of fans?

Hatred?

It's baseball. It's just a game.

..."the futility of individual effort."

of course i only feel that way because our giants were seen hearing metallica's 'exit life' a few too often :eyes:

team to get a pal's goat and outright hatred.

5. I've never understood downright hatred either.
I heard it in the voice of a parent last night at a soccer game for five year olds. It's just pathetic.

disliking.

There, I invoked Godwin's law, you may all stop posting in this thread now, since it's over.

(...there's baseball north of the Grapevine?) ;)

BTW I've never seen any posts about hatred of the Halos. I'm referring mainly to posts about hatred of the team they beat last night.

14. The NY Yankees are the team of the overlords, of the oppressors
It is not about hating the Yankees, it is about hating the oppression, dynasties, royalty and ruling classes that they represent.

'We stand at Rossa's grave not in sadness, but in exultation of spirit... This is a place of peace sacred to the dead, where men should speak with all charity and all restraint; but I hold it a Christian thing... to hate evil, to hate untruth, to hate oppression, and hating them to strive to overthrow them... while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree, shall never be at peace.' Patrick Pearse 1915

Ding dong, the Yankees got beat.

:woohoo:

31. Bull. It's a game, period. No matter how much money they might
make, they lose just like any other team, regularly. If the other teams choke and can't defeat them in a pennant race or the World Series, that's their problem, not some indication that the Yankees have signed some deal with the devil.

16. Ahhhh...I don't like the Yankees much either
Just because they win only by outspending everyone else.

Personally, I'm a Giants fan first, then an A's fan, then a Cubs fan. Under that, its a tie between the Red Sox and the Tigers.

Teams I don't like always include the Astros, Rangers and Yankees - and probably the Dodgers and Angels.

19. I think it's easier to say " I hate the Yankees".. than
"The yankees are such sniveling, overpaid, arrogant, pompous, expect the world to bow down, assholes."

Does 'hate' really play into it? I doubt it. If it does then the person who holds the hate does have an problem to get that emotional over a baseball team.

I say I hate the Yankees, but I don't 'really' hate them. Just can't stand 'em.

20. Hey Congrats on those Angels.
I just love seeing the Yankees lose!!!!!!! Not hatred, just love seeing Steinbrenner and all of the Yankee fans go down hard. I worked in NYC during the run of the late 90's and got real sick of the ticker tape parades every year (mainly because I took the lexington ave line downtown to the world financial center, and it screwed my commute up)

Think they can take the White Sox?

27. Using the word "hate" in that context is intellectual laziness.
Instead of taking the time to explain that they are rooting for another team, or rooting against a team for a certain reason, the intellectually lazy just use the word hate.

My dad's hometown in East St. Louis. I've been a Cardinals fan since birth. Back when the Astros and Cardinals were in different divisions, I sort of cheered for the Astros. If they were playing anyone but the Cardinals, I'd be all for them winning.

I love Jim Edmonds. He might be my favorite ballplayer currently playing.

34. The players don't think it's just a game.
That's why folks like A-Hole... whoops, A-Rod, gets $250 million for hitting a ball with a stick and runs around in circles.

The fans are neanderthal animals too for inciting riots and violence because their team lost... or, worse, their team WON.

I mean, when I watch star trek and the federation beats the borg, I don't incite others to smash car windows and street lights, now do I? Ditto for when the Legion of Doom wins one over the Superfriends!
