What the H am I supposed to do with 5 cats?
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 04:11 PM by TrogL
(can't keep all the cat numbers straight)

I had one cat (cat 1). That was fine. But I lost it in the divorce, so I got a different cat (cat 2).

Then a kitten (cat 3) decided to go for a ride on top of my car engine and when I got to church people said "your car is meowing" and we got it out of there and the kids were all "ooooo it's so cute" and we put signs up but nobody claimed it and cat 2 got over it - eventually.

One day it disappeared and cat 2 still wasn't talking to me so we went to the pound and got a big grey tabby tom (cat 3a), specifically auditioning it to make sure it understood "lap kitty". Cat 2 snarled at it every time it got in my lap so it ended being my partner's cat and cat 2 learned how to be "lap kitty".

Then eldest daughter announced she was jealous and wanted her own kitten (cat 4), so cat 2 was pissed off ALL over again, so I had cat 2, cat 3a and 4 underfoot and snarling and hissing, but they got over eventually.

Then the ex announces she was putting cat 1 to sleep because it was shitting everywhere. The reason it was shitting everywhere was because she never changed the litter boxes and left smelly laundry all over the place, so I adopted it back. Of course cat 2 has never met this cat and cat 1 thinks of itself as the "original" albeit in a new house so they're pissed at each other and in the meantime the kitten has grown up and is now a cat in its own right. The list - cats 1, 2, 3a and 4.

Then a orange tabby kitten starts lurking around the house and the ex's house and eldest daughter wants to keep it and I say no and she sulks but lets it go, but a week later there's a sign up in the drug store with a colour photo and everything and the orange cat comes back so we catch it (actually, it invited itself in) and keep it in the basement over the long weekend (eventually it finds a hole and ends up with the run of the house) and cat 2 is pissed off ALL OVER AGAIN and we leave a phone message for its owners and they haven't called and haven't called and the stupid thing sits in my lap and purrs the building down and it's adopted a Linux penguin as its favourite toy and....

Current list: 1, 2, 3a, 4, 5.

What the H am I gonna do with 5 cats?

5. It must be hell being cat 2.
I have a cat 2, too. Cat 4 is getting up the nerve to come in the house, so cat 2 has to be segregated on the second floor. Then we'll keep cat 2 and cat4 separated for awhile, then they'll be able to see each other through a window, then the humans will allow them in the same space (after exiting said space) to duke it out. After a few months of this, they'll start getting along. Sound familiar?

8. What do you do?
You love 'em, give 'em a nice, warm place to stay, feed 'em, spay/neuter 'em . . . you know the routine. :hi:

And only 5? Talk to me when you have 8. In my own defense I'd like to say that I only got one of those on purpose -- the rest found their way to me, much like yours did.

17. Consider yourself lucky.
Kitties -- ya gotta love 'em. They're just so damn addicting. I usually have one at my head and one at my side and one at my feet during the night. I love the purring and the soft fur and the eye squints and all that good kitty stuff.
