I saw a "Don't buy Foie Gras" bumpersticker today
I thought, "What an obscure issue for a bumpersticker".

I wonder how many of the general American illiterati have any idea what the fuck that means?

"What's that - don't buy foyee grass? What the fuck is foyee grass? Sounds like sumpin' furr'n, and that scares me."

3. Guess that would be at odds with "Born To Shop"
I mean, you can't promote consumerism AND boycotting consumerism on one car, can you?

12. "Born to shop for foie gras!"
I wish I had that on my car - I'd have sped up and gotten in front of the lady, and see what her facial expression changed to!

4. It's about the way treat them.
They take a bunch of geese and feed them piles of food through a tube. That makes their livers get really fat, which apparently makes the livers taste good.

11. That wasn't my issue in the post
My issue is "what an obscure thing to have a bumpersticker for".

I know what foie gras is. Most people here do.

I DON'T think that the general American illiterati know what it is.

My post was neither pro nor con foie gras - it was purely about the obscurity of having a bumper sticker against it.

16. Which is actually a pretty good thing, I'd say, since the people that
do know probably have an opinion on it. Rather than another cookie-cutter "My other car is a Porsche" or something.

22. No need to get testy, Rabrrrrrr.
Some people care about how animals are treated, even if they are ducks and geese. That would be why they'd have that bumper sticker.

Perhaps the following is more in line with what you were expecting.: Gee, you're right, that IS an obscure bumper sticker! How observant you are! Well, at least the person driving that car isn't part of "the general American illiterati".

23. I get testy when I say something,
and then someone takes it as a jumping off point for something completely tangential, compltely ignoring what I said.

It's a matter of courtesy.

Though I agree with you that we should be concerned with how animals are treated, and foie gras making is an awful practice.

tangential. :eyes: Here's one for tomorrow: arrogant.

Forgive me for living, but you're making far too much of this. It's just silly that you would jump on me for giving the "wrong" answer to your post. I thought people here at DU were nicer than that ... and many of them are.

43. It's funny you should say that...
because it makes me testy when geese around here poop all over the sidewalk near the lake. It's just gross. The lake is really beautiful, especially in the autumn, but between the geese, seagulls, and pigeons, it's like Shit City down there.

Pigeons are even worse than geese. At least the geese stay near the lake or in the park. Pigeons shit on everything everywhere. Filthy creatures, they are.

13. Sadly, I love it, too
Thankfully it's so frightfully expensive it's not something I'm tempted to eat.

If it were $2 a pound, I have to admit, I'd be sucking it down like candy.

7. I had foie gras when I was in Europe
They made a big deal about it and paid a lot for it, so I tried it. I didn't think it was that great. I would never buy it. It tasted like cheddar cheese.

And NOT ONE PETA supporter will ever answer the charge that PETA kills animals, instead of provding no-kill shelters for them.

They set back animal rights by 50 years.
