The Sirens Scene In "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Is one of the greatest, most profoudly erotic, and yet unobjectionable sex scenes in modern "cinema."

Damned thing's hotter'n a arn skillit on a tin chicken coop roof!

Jumpin' Jee-hosaphat! Them wet wimmen is steamy!

Wish they woodna done turned that one poor feller into a frog!

1. I agree
That scene itself made the movie!

2. I just fall in love
all over the place. My lovely, lively wife just gives me that disgusted look and walks away.

It's on TBS right now. "Aw, come back, honey! SING to me!"

3. I am a straight woman - and I find myself strangely lusting for the Sirens
:wow:

4. Ain't nothin' strange about it
EVERYBODY falls in love with the Sireens. That's why they're Sireens. If I'm not mistaken, there was a female aboard when Odysseus passed the Sireens. And she had to plug her ears, too.

Only Odysseus, who wanted to hear the song, but was determined not to let them lead him to disaster, actually got to hear them, strapped to the mast.

Damn, that musta been something!

5. A pity it's not actually "modern"
The entire movie is a play on "The Tempest". Shakespeare would be proud.

I'm a Dapper Dan man!

8. Actually, it's a take
on "The Odyssey." Hence the cyclops (John Goodman), the Sireens hereinbefore mentioned, the Lotus-eaters (baptism scene) and the Homecoming (busting the Klan).

I don't know why I was thinking The Tempest- I knew full well it was Homer's Odyssey. I just watched the O Brother DVD a couple weeks ago.

Must be old age. That, or all the herbal essence I've been smoking lately.

6. Absolutely...
erotic and strange. That's one of my fave films ever -- so much fun to see the loose parallels with "The Odyssey."

12. A great director need not resort to nudity
Just look at Scorsese's adaptation of "The Age of Innocence": just a kiss on an exposed wrist puts steam in the viewer's strides. I'll take poetic eroticism over the blatant stuff any day.

14. Don't Sireens have nipples?
Soppen wet an' not so much as a BUMP!

But nudity runs a mighty tight race for second! But only with the right lighting.

Me, I read Playboy for the articles.
