1. I'm a chronic nail-biter.
Hey, it's non-toxic... just go with it.

So "society" wants you to quit... what's "society" done for you lately?

2. Well, nails and fingers are different
Finger chewing causes blood and shit.

It's embarrassing, especially when you're in a pool.

3. Could you elaborate a bit?
I'm having trouble visualizing what you describe.

Do you mean the skin at your fingertips?

5. Gotcha.
Well, I can't say that the problem's been so severe as to cause me to draw blood, so I guess you can say I'm just good at it. :)

But for your purposes, just dip all your fingertips in something nasty tasting, maybe that'll keep your mouth away. Although, for open wounds, it might sting a little. :D

Hey, it's all I got.

7. Me
Badly. My knuckles and the skin around the nails.
I bit my nails for about 15 years and kicked the habit but started biting my fingers instead.
1 thumb and 2 fingers have massive open wounds on them, it's gross.
I'm not the only one though, in a convenience store the other night the guy at the counter asked me about it and said he did the same thing, he said something about it meaning you think too much and are too sensitive.
I wish I could stop, I have to hold my hand in a peculiar way to hide it in certain company.
The bitter nail stuff and constant nagging from SO and family and friends makes NO difference.
Nearly kicked the habit while traveling in South America, but back in the daily grind and it's all on again.
Madness.

NB. not actually my first post, I had another login but left the password etc on te other side of the world. whoops

8. You need to stop eating your fingers, Hey...
My Greekspeak does that too...causes himself to bleed sometimes as well. I don't have a solution to stop it, though. I think it's probably just nerves making you do it. Maybe you should go see a doctor about it (yes, I mean a psychiatrist) and they could give you some medicine that would help.

9. I gnaw on my fingers too.
I draw blood a lot. It is a bit embarrassing, but I can't stop. So good luck on doing that....:)

11. I've tried it...
It gets kinda gross after a while.
Not very hygienic.
Strangely, I'm not *that* worried about it.
I'd like to stop but know it will take a change in my thinking to do so, not something physical or external pressure.
I'm sure that the day I really put my mind to it will be the last.
