Nomar Garciaparra Rescues Women From Boston Harbor

BOSTON -- Nomar to the rescue.

A published report said former Red Sox All-Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra and his uncle jumped into Boston Harbor to save two women who had fallen into the water.

Victor Garciaparra told the Boston Herald that he and Nomar were in his waterfront condominium Friday night when they heard a scream and a splash. He said they ran outside, jumped into the water and pulled the women to safety.

Victor Garciaparra said one of the women appeared to be unconscious and had a bump on her head, but when she came to the first thing she asked was: "Are you Nomar?"

The women were whisked away to a hospital by their husbands before the Garciaparras could get their names.

A man who witnessed the incident from his boat called it "unbelievable."

"A bunch of us came running over and sure enough, pulling the two girls from the water was Nomar," witness Johnny O'Hara said.

Garciaparra now plays for the Chicago Cubs.
