Hey! I could use some help with an assignment! |
|
The shelter that we volunteer for has asked for help with their winter newsletter. One of the things they want me to do is...well... interview ourselves.
If you were going to interview someone who volunteers at an animal shelter 5 hours away what kind of questions would you ask them? Please try to ask serious questions so that I can use some of them when I send her the article.
Thank you in advance!

1. Can't go wrong with asking yourself Who, What , Where, Why and When |
|
as in Who are you? What do you do when you aren't volunteering? Where do you live? Why are you a volunteer and how long have you been doing so? When did you start volunteering?
Etc. :-)

2. that's a cool assignment :) |
|
Not sure how long the interview is but here are some suggestions off the top of my head -
1. How did you come to volunteer at an animal shelter?
2. What is your favorite/least favorite aspect of the job.
3. What do you think could be done to raise awareness of abandoned or sheltered animals in your community?
4. What was the most exotic pet your shelter (or you) have ever dealt with while at work?
5. Have you ever considered expanding your volunteer work into a career in veterinary medicine?
Newsletters are generally pretty short, so to make space for good long answers it might be good to keep the questions sort of general at the beginning and more focused on the individual closer to the middle and end. It might also be good to have a profile of the interviewee preceding the interview.
Good luck with this assignment.

3. Here are some suggestions... |
|
Why do you choose to volunteer at an animal shelter 5 HOURS AWAY, instead of one closer?
In other words, why does this particular shelter draw your energy?
Have you ever adopted an animal from a shelter yourself?
How has working with animals and being of service to them in this way enhanced your life?
Are you interested in translating your volunteer work with animals into a career with animals..ie, a veterinarian?
Those are just some questions off the top of my head. Hope they help! Good luck with your assignment!

4. Sure, here are a few questions: |
|
What made you want to volunteer? Why is this work important to you?
What do you think of the experience? Rewarding? Frustrating? A little of both? Why?
What advice do you have for someone who may be reluctant to volunteer?
Is there any positive experience that has stood out for you? What was it, and what made it special?
How long have you been volunteering for them?
Um...that's all I can think of right now. Hope it helps. :hi:
