Why a large portion of Dems are cat-people |
|
"Cat people are different, to the extent that they generally are not conformists. How could they be, with a cat running their lives?" ~ Louis Camuti
I don't know a whole lot of conformist Democrats :D

2. Unlike dogs, cats view us as equal inhabitants. |
|
To win their affection takes time and energy and requires a secure person unlike dogs.

3. Also, I think it takes an "in-tune" person |
|
to understand the the unspoken and subtle desires of a cat. With such treatment a cat will will reward you twofold that of a dog.
Yup there are are alot of cat people around here...because there are alot of smart DUers. :-)

4. I don't know if enabling an Uberparasite is a good thing |
|
We feed them, we comb them, we take them for better health care then those among us who are uninsured can afford, and, in return, they swat at us, run over our heads at 4am, and yell if their food is 10 minutes late.
I read in one of Temple Grandin's books that cats have evolved least among all "domesticated" animals (don't know if cats would consider themselves domesticated).
This is one species who looked at the whole evolution thing, and figured "why evolve - why not get another species to evolve into my caretaker?"
/yes, I'm cranky. I had a cat loudly knock my water bottle and my alarm clock off the nightstand at 4:30 this morning.

5. Few other quotes about cats I think are definitely true |
|
"Cats were put into the world to disprove the dogma that all things were created to serve man." ~ Paul Grey
"When my cats aren't happy, I'm not happy. Not because I care about their mood but because I know they're just sitting there thinking up ways to get even." ~ I don't remember :(
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him." ~ Unknown

7. And yet there are dog people who don't appreciate |
|
being told they're not as smart as cat people. I own two dogs, and I wouldn't trade them for a cat box full of shit any day of the week. They're the absolute greatest.

18. As the Onion reminds us: "Want boxes of sh$t in your house?" |
|
Get a cat.
On the other hand, as much as I've loved my dogs over the years, there is some truth in the Mutts comic where the cat and cat person are inside a warm house doing a little "I don't have to outside!" dance, while the guy and his dog are shivering in the rain/sleet.

19. That's like saying "I wouldn't trade my cats for a plastic bag full of |
|
wet steaming shit I just had to pick up off the ground." Hardly a comparison. Most pet guardianship comes with a certain amount of responsibility and unpleasant chores. It's the pet you love, not their waste products.
Besides, I'm in the midst of toilet training my cat so no more litter box in my house! :)
Having said that, I can't wait to have a dog in addition to my cat. Such a happy family we'll be!

That even a "large portion" favor cats over dogs. Maybe they're just more fanatical. :P

Perhaps there's nothing too psychological about it. I just like pets! Big ones, little ones, doggie ones, kitty ones. The Professor

16. I'm on board with just about any animal. I frankly don't understand when |
|
people ONLY like dogs, or ONLY like cats. I love cats, dogs, just about any mammal really, plus birds and a few amphibians and reptiles as well.

20. I prefer dogs! I've had cats, rabbits, ducks, squirrels, fish, |
|
mice, hamsters, etc. I will always prefer dogs. They are the best. I know my dog appreciates me. Plus a mother doggie took in a squirrel and is nursing it back to health. What cat would do that? http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=44170

21. Methinks cats are more like politicians than dogs, IMO. |
|
1) They know how to "pussyfoot" around issues.
2) They figure out how to land on their feet when they fall.
3) They know when to show their claws and when to pull their claws in.
4) They can be real nice and lovey-dovey, and then the claws come out and swipe/scratch!
etc.

Or have suggestions as to what I can do with them? In terms of placing them in a new home.
