Does this neighbor problem sound familiar to anyone?
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 06:03 PM by brentspeak
I have a neighbor who, for some oddball reason, places chairs for himself and his friends on the very edge of his front lawn, facing the street, directly opposite to a stop sign. They'll sit there all day long on the weekends, drinking beer, and glaring at every car that stops at the stop sign. The intersection and the stop sign are not very busy, so each driver (including mine) gets a very thorough look-over as they stop and make their turn.

To say that this is intimidating would be an understatement. Is there a name for this?

2. Wow, they must be bored.
Wave at them and see what they do. Sounds like a neighbor I have.

7. The strange thing is, this is in New Jersey
Admittingly, my new neighborhood isn't anything like the town in NJ I grew up in.

Get a 1000 watt light and shine it the direction of his house every night. turn it on five minutes before sun set and turn off five minutes after sunrise. He'll get the picture.

8. How about waving to them?
Kill em with kindness.

But if that doesn't work, "wave like you mean it" TeeHee!

9. I dont know
I think it's kinda cool. Have you ever rolled your window down and said hello? I've lived in a few places, mostly in Az. But when I lived in Texas for a stint I noticed most of the backyards either didnt have a fence at all or were fenced with chain link. I noticed the neighbors were more friendly to eachother. Now here where I live everyone builds block fencing as high as legally possible. And hardly anyone ever sits of the front porch. I'd like to see people out in the front more, I think it would feel more like a community, more open. I don't know.....but, I do like my block wall, but I also like the fact that it's higher and lower in some places. Like when I'm on the pool deck I can see into my neighbors backyard and we try to respect eachother and not peer too much. but it is nice to catch a wave or walk to the divide and have a talk once in awhile. Also my kids and their kids climb over the wall instead of using doors or gates to go backyard hopping when they play together.

They just glared back. And continued to glare at me when I parked my car and got out.

10. Have you tried...
...pulling up next to them, and asking them how much for a "date"?

Find ten DU buddies they've never seen before to do this all on the same day, and the boys will find a new hobby, I betcha.

12. And at night they probably move their chairs and get to together...
in the Alpha males backyard, chug back a few Lone Stars and stare glassy-eyed at the Bug Zapper

and chuckle amongst themselves with every snap, crackle and pop.

16. I've seen similar things
But I don't live by them, thank goodness. Ignore them. Or get some bumpin' music, kick ass speakers and make sure it's turned WAY up when you drive by. I'm sure there are many musically inclined DU'ers who can suggest appropriate "driving by the assholes" songs.
