Whats the best way to blow off steam? |
|
I am still mad about my job. They told me 2 weeks severance (big deal) but now they're sending me a "release form" which I have to sign or I wont even get that.
:grr:

You won't sue them? That's pretty standard.

4. Well, don't get too worked up while you wait. |

I left a big company when they left town and I didn't want to relocate. There were a lot of papers to sign and, of course, the exit interview. The release said I wouldn't sue them, so I signed it. I think there was something about not being able to work for one of their competitors for a year, but I already had a job lined up and it wasn't a competitor.
If you're not planning on suing them or working for a direct competitor, there's probably nothing to worry about.

6. I can't believe all the crap you have to sign to get a job these days |
|
It gets worse and worse on the way in and out of each one. Most of the time I hear the stuff they make you sign is unenforceable or irrelevant, but it has the effect of intimidating people.
All Hail the Power of Corporations...

But they usually give you the check as soon as you sign ... and you won't get the check if you don't sign. They usually don't require you to hand over your first-born. :)
My neighbor signed all the stuff, got his check, and went to work for a competitor right away. The company found out and stopped payment on the check faster than you could blink. I don't know if he ever won that one b/c he moved and we lost touch with each other.
Good luck with all this stuff.

I once missed out on some really good opportunities with a successful company because of a non-compete with a company I had worked for in another state. It truly was not a conflict of interest and there is little chance they would have ever found out, but they were a very litigious company concerning ex-employees so I didn't want to chance it.
