1. One reason I'm worried about my Cardinals: lack of middle relief.
One of their best relievers is hurt. The starters are good, and the closer isn't bad, but middle relief is scary.

2. When do they start?
I am amazed at how much of a break the NL is getting. They should have started last night, because the Angels had NO break after whipping Yankee ass.

3. Tonight! I assume you have the Angels on Fox. The other game is on FX.
It's the reverse here.

19. The Angels have middle relief too
I think with the weakening of the Sox since the All-Star Break, and the way the Angels fended off an August meltdown, along with the challenge by the Oakland A's, I think they have good odds of a new WS championship.

5. Just to make my life a living hell?
I'm thinking of a word that starts with "bull" but doesn't end in "pen". Big league ball clubs should actually be in cities, rather than merely picking the name of the nearest one. I mean, c'mon, the "Washington Orioles of Baltimore" wouldn't have fooled anybody!

6. I think the name is stupid too
I call them the Anaheim Angels, like they were for most of the last 10 years. Anaheim itself is a sizeable place.

Their original name was the L.A. Angels in 1971, so it's some kind of nostalgia rationale. Marketing rules in MLB required them to use Anaheim in their name, and prohibits L.A. from appearing on shirts and other merchandise.

I am not a fan, by the way. I am into the team who actually plays in L.A.

However, I can be objective about their chances, and I think they have a good chance of winning the AL, if not the World Series.

9. The Angels have an idiot for an owner.
If Steinbrennner is the Montgomery Burns of baseball, Arte Marino is the Mayor Quimby of baseball.

"Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim" is about as redundant as "Vote Quimby!".

13. Back then they actually played in LA
At Dodger Stadium (they called it Chavez Ravine for Angels home games)

14. Typo?
When the AL expanded in 1961 and the Angels (and Twins) came into existence, they were the Los Angeles Angels. In '61 they played in Wrigley Field, then in Dodger Stadium for the next four years until The 'A' opened in '66, though they switched to California Angels the year before that. From 1997 through last season they were the Anaheim Angels.

I say move 'em to Irvine and confuse the hell out of everybody. :silly:

16. I say move 'em to South Central!
I say move 'em to Irvine and confuse the hell out of everybody.

As part of a grand urban renewal project, in conjunction with Magic Johnson Theatres, the AL's Angels announced their impending move to a state-of-the-art facility in South Central Los Angeles.

The team will henceforth be known as the "Los Angeles Angels of Los Angeles". :-)

18. Typos
Forgive me, for I drink cheap wine. :P

I know all too well about their name change in '97. I am a Mariners fan too, and remember fondly knocking the California Angels out in the 1-game playoff in '95.

The Irvine idea, LOL!

21. The Twins were not an expansion team
They were formerly the Washington Senators.

Move em to the Peoples Republic of Irvine?

22. Gaa!
I erred. Witch... great catch. :applause:

The Senators moved to Bloomington that year, and the new Senators (later the Texas Rangers) were the expansion club.

It sucks getting old...

I am being nice. In fact, I think it will go 7 games, and I will pull for the White Sox if they go to the World Series!

15. The Angels impressed me yesterday
Great defense. Timely hiting. Great pitching. A sound, sound team. If Vlad starts hitting they will be un-beatable.

17. Because the White Sox, who really should win,
since the Angels pitching staff is short-handed, are completely brain dead on the basepaths these first two games.

20. I think we have 4 good teams in the playoffs now, and any 2 of them
will produce a memorable World Series.

I can't find it in me to root against any of them.
