1. Way'at SoDem?
close enough to N.O., I guess.

Seriously, how's it going over there? I'm an N.O. expat myself, but I'd hate for you guys to just get lost in the shuffle.

2. So - So...
Power is back up in areas that can take power. Water is drinkable again. Phones are going to be out in some areas for up to a month. Cable is coming back around town slowly.

The East part of Biloxi known as the Point is basicly gone. Hundreds of houses are just gone. The only businesses that survived in the East are one gas station and one seafood processing plant. A couple of the Casinos should be up and running in a few months.

Everything on HWY 90 is gone or severly damaged. The mall should reopen soon though. They took 4 feet of water but are working hard.

Four other residential areas including mine were destroyed. Several hundred homes in my neighborhood are either gone or unlivable.

Large areas of Biloxi look like they were carpet bombed.

Could be worse I guess...

5. I never watched it either!
I work at night so I don't get to watch a lot of the prime time shows.

8. I'm going there next week on business
I'm down there once a year and have really grown to like it (the people take a few years to embrace us Yankees, but that's ok). I heard The Patriarch, the 2,000 year-old tree at Mary Mahoney's survived. True?

9. Yep, tree made it. Mahoney's took damage though. He is looking
to be back open in a month or so.

10. That's one of my favorite restaurants anywhere
Besides the food, I love those run-down bohemian dining rooms near the bar downstairs. It's the smoking section, but so what.

11. You are going to run into problems finding a room in Biloxi I am afraid.
The Isle and IP's hotels are open but FEMA and the power company have most of the rooms. Try something along the interstate, maybe Pascagoula.

12. Thanks...I know one of the hotel operators there
He's putting me up in his place. No hot water, though...A small price to pay, given all the devastation.
