So I have this mug with 'Andy Stephenson' written on it
I spend a good deal of time at a local Boston bar that runs a marvelous pyramid scheme. Drink all the 130 beers they have in bottle, on tap, and buried underneath the dumpster out back, and do so in six months, and you get a big 25 ounce mug.

Sure, it costs about $900 plus tip to drink all these beers, but there are two up-sides:

1) Everything out of the tap goes into the 25oz mug for the regular pint price, so it's a two-for-one deal (I drank PBR for eight months for $3.14 a mug after getting my mug to even the price score);

2) The scam is called the Dead Author's Club, as the bar is named after a dead author. Ergo, you get to have the name of your favorite dead author inscripted on your mug.

When I first got my mug two years ago, the name on it was H.L. Mencken. But then two things happened this summer: The bartenders accidentally broke my mug, and Andy died. I asked them - and this was two months ago - to have the name 'Andy Stephenson' replace Mencken as the dead author on my mug.

I waited, and waited, and waited for my new mug to show up. Things move glacially at this joint. August, September, into October...

I showed up tonight, however, and there it was. My mug, which I drink out of at least three times a week, has Andy's name on it. My friends, who know the significance, toasted him tonight.

My mug reads 'Andy Stephenson.'

But I must point out that 25 ounces at a 16 ounce price isn't really two for one. It's more like 3 for 2.

...a nuclear war has occurred and the only beer you were able to find the fallout shelter where you will live the next couple of decades is cases upon cases of PBR. Then, MAYBE you have a good reason

13. Sorry, not good enough of an excuse
It's PBR!! Geez, if I have a $30 bottle of wine does that mean I have to drink 10 bottles of Mad Dog 20/20 to make up for the 'deficit'? SOrry, considering the loss money from advil I would need to purchase to deal with the massive hangover I get from cheap beer (along with possible lost wages from being incapacitated from said cheap beer), personally I think you're getting a bargain

I'll quote the famous VelmaD (who repeated this to me about 20 times at the Friday night party in DC when folks kept buying the $5 pitchers of Miller Lite and I kept drinking from them) "Life is too short to drink cheap beer"
