Cellular phone as primary phone ... |
|
I currently have a house phone and a cell phone. I am debating about disconnecting my house phone and using my cell phone only.
Anyone else do this? I'm asking because I'm thinking if I lose my cell, I wouldn't have a phone for a few days, etc.

Everyone in this household has a cellphone. We got rid of our main line last year and haven't had any problems. If you're prone to losing your phone or if you have kids in the house, you might want to keep the main house phone. Otherwise, I would save the money and get rid of the main line. :)

6. If it weren't for the fact.. |

.... that to get DSL I have to have a home phone, I would have disconnected it long ago.
Me, my wife and 3 sons all have phones. The landline is really redundant.

9. DSL is the only reason I still have my home phone but... |
|
..I've stripped every feasible feature off of my home phone including long distance packages. Sprint has a long distance plan where you do not pay a monthly fee but it would be like 10cents a minute to make an LD call (which I never do).

7. I don't get the best reception |
|
in my house, so losing the house phone would be an annoyance. Plus I have kids and I don't expect the sitter to have a cell phone.
I did just switch to Vonage though and it's unlimited calls for $24.99 a month.
If you think you could make it work, why not.

8. That's my problem as well. Reception in the house is awful. |
|
Plus, I work from home and need to have a land line so I can have an 800#

10. I have had a cell phone only for 3 years |

I have never lost my phone but my phone has died which is a pain for a few days. I would make sure you have plenty of minutes and check how many minutes you have left during the month for the first few months so not to run over cause that gets expensive. Also I would get the insurance option just in case your phone dies they replace it pretty quickly.

I think I will terminate my home service at the end of the month.

12. The only reason I still have a land line is |
|
that I need to have a fax line because some of my clients still send work and purchase orders by fax.
However, I have lowered my phone costs dramatically by switching to Vonage's 500 minutes for $15 + $10 for a dedicated fax line. (I don't spend a lot of time talking on the phone.)
When my current cell phone agreement ends, I plan to switch to a prepaid account, so that I don't have to pay for minutes that I never use.

13. I pay 40 a month for my cell |

and I don't make that many home calls, so it's no biggie for me to switch.

that you could subscribe to an online fax service for less than what you pay per month for your land line?

15. We use a landline for internets ($12 a month + 9 cents a call) |
|
That is the only reason we have a landline oh and if the power goes out in a storm or something. The "Batphone" we call it.
