Photo thread - Post your pics of your FEMansion & injured pets!
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 05:54 PM by merh
This is my FEMAnsion

Inside my new home.

And this is my terrier, Winston.

Winston is slowly healing and with that collar on, he helps me get in more than 2 channels on my t.v. The only problem is, he won't stay still - he keeps falling off the t.v.

(Just joking   )

4. Ain't he a cutie.
He is doing so much better - I have to get his other leg fixed, but right now, the one that was operated on is healing nicely. We both are hanging in there!

So glad you love the place. It ain't much, but it gives me shelter and privacy and is more than so many others have. :-)

17. Since his right hip still needs surgery, he causes himself pain
when he tries too hard to be normal. The bones in his hip grind in the joints. The left leg, the one that has been repaired is doing so much better. I can't wait to get the right one fixed. :-)

He is a fiesty little soul, but the vet said he has a low tolerance for pain. I would too in his situation.

Thanks for your good wishes. :hi:

23. Not only is he cute, he is a sweet soul.
Both of us are striving to get our footing. He often tries too hard and expects too much too soon, causing himself pain. I sometimes do the same thing. We are learning patience.

24. Welcome to DU, Dangerously Amused.
:hi: Thank you so much for your kind words. You give me far too much credit, if you were in my shoes, you would probably be acting the same way. What other options are there?

Everywhere you turn folks are in the same boat or living in worse conditions than I am. Everyone you meet has their own story of survival, destruction and determination. The community shares the same nightmare, but we also share the same determined spirit of survival.

We will rebuild, it just will take us time. Please help us by not letting folks forget that we are out here. :grouphug:

45. Sorry to kick this thread but...
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 12:57 AM by Dude_CalmDown
...I hate not responding to people who respond to me and I've been too busy to stop in for a few days so I'm responding now:

I miss him far more than I'll ever admit anywhere but on the internets. I kind of have a reputation for not giving a shit about anything but he was such a good friend that I think about that little guy all the time. Putting him to sleep wasn't too hard though as he was really suffering near the end and I just couldn't justify keeping him alive any longer. By the end, he had so many problems that it was just painful to look at him. For the last couple of years he was virtually blind and deaf and so he was only really comfortable when he was in the arms of someone whose scent he could recognize or when he was on a pile of my dirty clothing or one of my blankets - which in a really messed up kind of way was really cute.

On edit: Can't believe I forgot to mention the only reason I even responded to this thread in the first place - your dog is so damn cute with that huge collar on. I feel bad he has to wear it but that pic for some reason is just so comical to me. I hope he gets well soon.

Ain't my Winston a sweetie! :-) So glad you like my place. It's not much, but it gives me back my independence - I was afraid my sister and her husband were going to file adoption papers. :scared: I love them dearly, but it came to a point where I felt like I was 18 and making plans to go off to college - it was weird. :freak:

Have a great day and give NSMA my love! :grouphug: :loveya:

31. He hates that "elizabethian" collar - but it has helped me keep up
with him. He finds it hard to move too fast with it on, it scraps the ground. So it actually serves many purposes, it keeps him from biting at his stitches and/or his leg when in pain, it keeps him from moving too fast and causing himself pain and it helps with the t.v. reception. ;-)

It is so good to see you, WC! I hope you have a great day. :loveya:

i can't post any pix, we actually have sufficient repairs made so we can now live in our real house, it's amazing how quickly you get used to blue roof syndrome, heck, i've even got my own evacuee now, he was stranded out of town for weeks so he's actually just starting on the first steps to see what aid he can get and if his house can be fixed

our pets just think they went on a longer than usual vacation to see the grandparents, they don't know how lucky they are

:hi:

Winston is getting better every day. Thanks for the well wishes.

I am so glad you have been able to make the repairs to be in your house. How wonderful for you and yours! :bounce:

Blue roof syndrome is an amazing thing, isn't it. I know plenty of folks here who did not have the chance to get the blue roofs before Rita and their houses sustained more damage. Now that they have the blue roofs, they feel safer and are much drier.

I have two other dogs that are still at my sister's. They are being spoiled and pampered, which is a good thing. I am afraid I would not be able to properly take care of the 3 pups at my FEMAnsion. The ground is too littered with shards of glass and debris. I would have to set up a special payment plan with the vet for sure if they all were with me.

Take care of yourself and let me know if you I can help you in any way. Just talking to another who is going through this can help.

Winston is on the mend, he just has to have the other leg fixed, he is frustrating the heck out of himself trying to be normal with that hip grinding as it does. :-(

My FEMAnsion is so much better than what I had (slab & debris), I am delighted to have it. :-) And you have to laugh, too much around here can get you down if you don't find humor. ;-)

Thanks for your support & concern.
