A&E Cold Case Files
Tonight at 9pm est, CCF has "The Calling Card," about a girl that I went to school with, who was murdered in 1975. Her mother worked at the Troop C barracks with a couple of my uncles. It took 25 years until with DNA evidence they solved the crime. I got to know one of her brothers fairly well.

At a time when police caught on film assaulting an elderly man serve to disgrace their uniform, it's good to remember that there are plenty of good officers/detectives, who do a good job.

2. Yeah, it's a good show.
I've wanted to see this episode for a while. They seem to do a good job reporting on these cases.

3. One of my favorite shows
Is this a repeat of the episode where the guy literally left his business cards at the scene? I think it was in upstate NY?

I agree with you - it's amazing to see the interviews with the detectives, how much these murders affect them, and how much they care about justice being served.

6. Oh yes, I saw that one
I'll have to watch it again tonight. I remember one of the detectives, or perhaps the moderator, saying something like, "your dream as an investigator is someone leaving their calling cards at the scene of the crime. In this case, it actually happened."

Cold Case Files is a terrific show. On another forum I frequent, there is a long thread regarding Lisa Marie Kimmell, the so-called "Lil Miss" case from the late '80s. She was murdered while traveling at night to visit a boyfriend. Cold Case Files also featured her case recently. DNA finally solved it a few years ago and her missing Honda CRX was unearthed on the suspect's property. He was convicted and received the death penalty. Lisa's mother is a frequent poster on the site I frequent and has written a recently released book on the case. Another very good website on Lisa Kimmell's life and the case itself is here: http://www.geocities.com/ForLisaKimmell/

7. I remember that case from when it happened
I was so glad to hear it had been solved.

The older sister of one of my closest friends growing up was murdered in Seattle back in 1978. Her name was Sara Lundquist and her murder has never been solved. I really, really want to see her story on one of these shows someday. :(

10. One of my best friends was murdered 19 months ago
His name was Larry Mathews and he disappeared from Las Vegas in March 2004. For more than a month his friends tried to rationalize it as leisurely travel, taking off unnanounced at the last minute. But then his mother put out a missing persons report in April. She hadn't heard from Larry since early March. When I saw that missing person flyer I immediately suspected the worst. Larry told me he spoke to his mother at least once per week.

They found his body in the desert, a gunshot victim and so badly decomposed after more than a month it was unidentifiable, until a DNA match with his mother confirmed the identity. I gave all my info to a homicide detective. It was weird as hell, being asked questions like, "When was the last time you saw Larry?" I started to write a DU thread on the matter, but it was a stressed time and I didn't feel up to answering responses, even though they would have been well wishers.

Larry's murder is still unsolved. The most recent rumor is a couple he knew and trusted may have been responsible. Larry was a cash and carry guy who played poker, blackjack, bonus slot machines and bet sports. He flashed wads of cash, and I guess we never warned him about that nearly enough.
