My knees hurt....
Really damned bad. I hate this time of year I really really hate it. You'd be laughing if you saw what I was doing right now to try and alleviate the pain.

Yes, it is a self serving, whiney thread DS! :hi:

1. Have you ever tried the ol' rice in a sock trick?
Fill a tube sock with rice, tie off the end and nuke it for a minute or so.
Feels really good on stiff joints.

5. Those really do work.
That's basically what one of those "Magic Bag" heating pads is, only made with different grains and fabrics.

BTW, I think oats would work better than rice. Certainly better than dried rice out of a box.

8. My next door neighbor made me a corn pad. It's a square of flannel
with corn in it that I throw in the micro for a couple minutes. The flannel is a GB Packer pattern. I love it. :hi:  Lars, always good to see you.

then I put the corn pad on...then I had fat old Merlin lay on my lap to keep the heat in. Any port in a storm. :hi:

14. thats interesting
to hear about the magnetic braces
and the corn

do they help

those are alternative type of remedies so if i may ask do you have an injury (since you mention the season)

i know infrared has helped people with various pains but i dontknow your situation so im not in any position to make a suggestion
just pointing it out since you already have some alternatives going

hope youre feeling any better....

21. The heat helps a lot. The magnetic braces may be all in my head
but they work. It's degenerative arthritis, and, with each passing year, it seems to get worse. Thanks so much. I'm such a baby about it, there are much worse things that people go through. I'm not a big one for prescriptions so I always try alternative therapies as well as prescriptions. Our copays are killer. We're lucky to have the insurance though.

24. i definitely believe in magnetic therapy
its great that youre doing that

and to not rely on prescriptions especially for that kind of pain
thats amazing and i think youre terrific for going the route you are
and you are definitely not being a baby (though you have every right to be)

take good care mrs g
i surely am sorry for your pain

Nothing better than Cat Heating Pads. I'm snuggling with one right now.

4. Not having a right knee anymore
I don't miss it all that much, except when I try to run, go up or down stairs, kneel, during cold wet weather, walking over uneven ground, or closing desk drawers.

Other than that I haven't missed it at all for the past 35 years.

10. Glucosamine might help, long-term
Not a pain reliever, but a supplement that helps keep the joints lubricated.

Do NOT take it if you're allergic to shellfish, which is one of the main ingredients.

26. I feel your pain....new technology that can grow new cartilege
I have horrible osteo-arthritis in my knee after a knee operation to remove two torn meniscus' (sp?)

My orthopedic doctor had already determined that I needed a total knee replacement, so I had been putting it off out of fear.

My doctor later advised me that there was something new on the market which was non-invasive, alleviated pain and in addition, allowed people to again live normal lives.

It is $4000 for one knee which was too pricey for me. Then later, I found out I could RENT it for $37.00 per month.

It looks like a knee brace, but has electrical pads which send a signal to the knee which you can't even feel.

So far, I have 542 hours logged per the reading from the unit itself. I am told I will see a significant change when I hit 700 or so hours. Hey, anything which is non-invasive and gives me a chance of being pain-free and not so housebound is a good thing.

I understand there are people out there who after using this now are able to play tennis who were told originally they needed knee replacements. I would be happy with less.

I just wanted to share....good luck!
