The newscast now being macho and asking WHY they weren't vaccinated.
(uh, could it be because such vaccinations ended in 1970?!?! :eyes: The religious bit was a nice touch, but more or less irrelevant given prevailing circumstances...)

Just FYI, it was Small Pox that was discontinued in 1970.
Polio vaccination is still very much alive and well.

and I remember polio vaccinations very clearly. although I did get the oral vaccine, I think, and that was discontinued in 2000, since it carries live virus, and the WHO is trying to eradicate polio.
the question is, since the Americas have been certified as polio-free, does this outbreak of non-wild polio virus mean the Americas are no longer polio free? I guess so, since the last cases in the US were in 1979, also in an Amish community.
