Name things that are soooo good, but so very, very wrong to eat, drink, or
enjoy.

Pate. Specifically goose liver pate....

Pate is really, really wrong.. but my GAWD it can be so amazingly delicious when slathered on a piece of barely toasted fresh baked baguette, and paired with a glass of good, delicate wine, and enjoyed alongside toasts covered in smelly runny cheeses, or a raspberry. So very, very wrong.

Veal... osso bucco is food of gods yet, those poor, poor little calves....

Next?

1. Hmmmmm
I'd say, a full order of crispy beef AND a full order of chicken fried rice.

That's gotta be wrong somehow, but oh so good!

2. was I wrong?
I used to be really into that whole Coors boycott thing. I fell off the wagon a decade ago. I was doing a charity bike ride. You'd start in one city and ride 50 miles to a large park in the next city. A perk is that there was free beer at the park. The beer was Coors. Since it was free was it wrong for me to drink it in massive quantities?

6. Why is veal wrong?
Probably a cultural thing.

The supply of veal meat is a direct consequence of the milk industry; if veal is wrong, then so is milk.

10. It has to do with how it is raised
Lots of veal calves are raised in inhumane conditions: confined to a small area, not exercized, etc. That's the main reason why veal is "wrong" to many people.

18. well, yes
I am aware of that. But not eating veal won't change anything, as the situation is a by-product of the milk industry.

19. Most dairy farmers don't raise their male calves for veal
most just raise them for regular beef.

28. Is that so?
In the EU it is more like "Most dairy farmers don't raise their male calves." I don't actually know about the numbers in the US.

Of course other factors, like BSE, might be to blame for that.

29. The dairy farmers I've known
have raised male calves for one year under pretty normal circumstances and then had them slaughtered at a year for beef.

I live in a big dairy area but I can only speak for this area.

8. Kung Pao Chicken
over fried rice. Ohhhhh, soooooooo good. Now I'm hungry for it, and now I suspect I'll be giving into my craving soon.

Oh the veal thing above? The controversy, the way I understand it, is the way those poor calves are raised. Very small stalls, they can't move, never go outside, etc. Poor little things.

9. Well, pate in and of itself isn't wrong...
Regular goose liver isn't any less humane than any other poultry product (which isn't great, but).

(Unless you're counting calories and cholesterol, in which case, carry on.)

I make Jewish-style chopped chicken livers on occasion, recently with livers I've saved from whole chickens.

Pate de fois gras, on the other hand...
Cruelty on a cracker. Goes fabulously with sauternes, though.

14.  Veal, foie gras
And I know someone else corrected you already about pate - I just want to re-iterate that. Pate can be made from anything.

It's just the foie gras that's wrong. But oooooooohhhhh so good!

27. I stand corrected on the fois gras aspect and we might as well serve it
with veal, right?

And how about a nice crisp chablis? Although, I was partial to pinot grigot LONG before that fucking movie came out... ruined it for us pinot fans.

Can we have a nice rocket salad with a touch of truffle?

*sigh*

20. White. Castle. Double. Cheeseburgers.
Burger Shack Employee: Ding-dong! May I interject for a second? As a Burger Shack employee for the past three years, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that if you're craving White Castle, the burgers here just don't cut it. In fact, just thinking about those tender little White Castle burgers with those little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in your mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one... just makes me want to burn this motherfucker down. Come on, Pookie, let's burn this motherfucker down! Come on, Pookie! Let's burn it, Pookie! Let's burn this motherfucker down! Let's burn it down! Let's burn it! So you guys maybe should just suck it up and go to White Castle.
