Official: "moving in with your lover makes you fat" - obesity expert

A UK obesity expert has analysed why it is that women who move in with their man often put on weight as a result.
Eating man-sized portions and indulging in richer foods and wines can lead to weight gain, a review in The Lancet medical journal says.

When you combine that with going on the contraceptive pill or having babies, a woman's waistline can severely suffer, says author Dr David Haslam.

"Men are very bad for women really," he said.

If you are eating with a partner the evening meal is a social event...you may eat more and maybe more extravagant stuff

1. Yes, it does happen.
I believe that it has to do with feeling happy. Food taste better. There is less nervous energy burning off the calories.

2. people in relationships tend to gain weight period
it's not as if only straight women ever gain weight. It's probably just an overall hormonal shift from being coupled. Living with men you're not sleeping with doesn't have the same effect.

3. There's some truth there
when my husband and I first started living together, we made the mistake of splitting meals into two so we each ate the same amount. But I don't need the same amount as he needs.

And the birth control pills and of course having babies cause weight gain too.

Still, I love being married and love being a mom and wouldn't change it for my skinny single days.

6. Feh!
It happens to men too. The biggest reason is you do not go out and do as much when you were single or dating. You have a lower activity level than before so you gain weight. Also along with lower activity and hanging around the house more does tend to lead to more snacking. But to say this is only a female thing is crazy, men gain lots of weight to. So i guess according to Dr. Haslam women are very bad for men as well.

7. This does not explain my problem
since I live alone. If only I could blame it on the fact I was living with someone.
