Yes, Jeffry Lurie, owner of the Eagles is on there BUT I checked him out and he gave back in 1998. Most recently he donated $2000 to Allyson Schwartz, a great US Representative out here in the PA suburbs (Ramsey and I both worked on her campaign). So I'm letting him slide.

2. I have always hated Arnold Palmer

4. PA Repukes considered using Arnie to run against Ed Rendell

They actually went through their list of PA repuke sports notables and both Palmer's and Joe Paterno came up as potential gubernatorial candidates in 2006.

Not kidding you!

But ultimately they settled on Lynn Swann

Sorry, maybe Californians want celebrities as their governor but I think PA knows they want qualified people!

5. Don't blame Californians for Ahnold!

I blame the transplants who move here and get all starstruck. The natives like me know better. Besides, with a 30% approval rating, even the newcomers here have wised up.

But how is Lynn Swann any more qualified? I don't think athletes are any more qualified than action movie figures. :shrug:

6. I think neither are qualified

but what they're hoping is that voters will get 'starstruck' like they did in California and vote for Swann just because he was a Hall-of-fame Wide Receiver from the Steelers.

And I think even Arh-nuld knows he's going down - he's already signed on to to True Lies 2 and T4

7. It's a national disease

Oklahoma put NFL Hall of Fame fundie RWer Steve Largent of the Seahawks in Congress in much the same vein.

Iowa had that Love Boat guy.

And I know there are other examples.

It is appalling that the Gropenator made it this far. I think the GOP here wanted him to be the next Reagan - an actor making it big in politics. Who knows? The backlash will probably pay off - we have some major ballot initiatives coming on November 8.

Of course, I have long held that politics and show business are more similar than different. I don't like being proved right about that. :-)

8. I know - it's easy to put a puppet in the position and then surround

that puppet with those who will tell him/her what to do.

I don't have a problem with celebrities running for office but it would be nice if they had some skills in working with government. I wouldn't be so anti-Lynn Swann if the guy maybe ran for a local office and build up his resume and prove he could run office.

Think about this - Arh-nuld didn't start the trend. Neither Bush brothers had any experience other than their daddy was once president and yet both ran for a major office for the first time in 1994 (Gee, how ironic - the year of the "Contract on America"). Ok, yeah the chimp ran for a US house back in the late 70s but he was too drunk for it to qualify
