Strange encounter with a Bush supporter today
Stopped for gas after work and I was pumping when a couple in a Jaguar convertable pulled up to the pump behind me. When the guy got out, he laughed and asked me, "Don't think much of our boy George, huh?" (no doubt because of my bumper stickers - "Impeach Bush", "Somewhere in Texas a village is missing its idiot" and "Democratic Underground").

I said, in the same bantering tone, "Now what makes you think that?"

He was VERY pleasant. Laughed again and said, "Well, he's actually a real nice guy. I used to golf with him."

I shrugged and said, "Well, my dad's a nice guy and he golfs but I wouldn't want to see him in the Oval Office either."

Both the guy and his wife chuckled at that, finished pumping their gas and smiled and waved as they left. It was so strange - I've never had an encounter with Bush supporters like it. Pleasant, friendly and non-argumentative.

Kind of gives me hope...

1. I had a wreck two weeks ago...
I pulled over and got out to greet the guy who's Blazer I had just creamed in the side. I reached into my truck to get my insurance info and he said, "That's not a Bush sticker on there IS IT?" (I had one of the WTF? stickers on my back window). I told him no and he said, "what is it then?". I showed him, and even gave him an extra I had in my brief case. He almost acted happy that I creamed him...:)

3. Sure, why not?
Seems you don't need many qualifications any more. :eyes:

5. I've actually heard Bush was a nice guy
and I don't doubt it.

I've met some very friendly Repubs in my life - but you're right. Just because someone is nice doesn't qualify them for the Oval Office.

Clinton was an asshole on many accounts, but made a damn fine prez.

LBJ was a totall dickwad, and would openly call MLK Jr a "n" but he signed Civil Rights legislation, and was one of our best presidents, even with the wicked albatross of Vietnam around his neck.

6. Talk about degrees of separation... wow.... AND
We have almost the same bumper stickers on our cars.

I have the village idiot, Support Our Troops/Bring Them Home, and...drumroll....
I will not remove my KERRY/EDWARDS sticker, on principle.

In fact, a friend, whose husband is a state senator in S.C. (and repub)... almost wouldn't get in my car. She was joking.

She said, "get over it."

And I said, "Hey! I'm still so not over 2000."

And we drove on. They are very nice, but we don't talk politics.

Oh, they also know Katie Holmes' parents (went to school w/) and my friend said her parents HATE Tom Cruise. When she asked what was up with all this, the father replied, "well, you see her picture in every paper, right?" And my friend nods. The father says, "She got what she wanted." That was back in the summer.

But I digress. If only my brother the MAJOR, Rush-type Repub would be civil. Oi!
