3. Or Rizzo's Pizza in Torrance CA |
|
Obnoxious kids there, yelling, SCRAPING their chairs... with Mom and Dad at a SEPARATE table, oblivious to them.
One sharp comment from our table, and the mother barked at her brood to shut up. It was a wonderful sight. :-)

7. I think most parents are cowards |
|
When it comes to their kids, anyway. They buy into all that happy horseshit about how discipline = hurting their self-esteem or some other Oprah-fied crapola.
The formula used to be simple. Parents barked, kids listened. If the kid repeated, he ended up in the car. :D

43. I just don't like the tone that these discussions |
|
sometimes take. And I do find them offensive at times as a parent in general. As if all kids were screaming brats. Some are, but many are not. Above all, they are people and the people who complain were once kids.
It's the lack of empathy that bugs me the most.

The worst my daughter has occasionally done is to try to strike up conversations with the people sitted near us, but I tell her to just talk to mommy and daddy because other people don't necessarily want to chat, and she's OK with that. No running or yelling or anything. Although we did avoid restaurants for a period of time because she wouldn't have been able to handle it.

there's boisterous but normal behavior, then there's spoiled and out of control. We tend to run into the spoiled category more than normal.

|
But when you have a situation that ruins your meal..unfortunately those are the ones you really remember. When we're annoyed I guarantee you we're not the only ones there that are - others were too.
And as we always say it comes down to the parents with these kids. You've really got to feel sorry for the kids who's parents fear discipline.

If I want an ensured quiet meal, I stay home. This post was intended as a joking commentary to difuse the age old argument that crops up between two factions which tend to agree to disagree. Apparently, joking over anything, doesn't appear to be allowed here this evening. :hi:

Ill-mannered adults piss us off even more.
But joking aside, you have seen nini and I both blame the ADULTS who fail to control their kids, and NOT the kids themselves, for their acting up.
Really, we have the same complaint. An adult yammering on their cell phone is EVERY BIT as annoying as the one who ignores their rude children and is actually modeling disrespectful behavior for them.

I think these threads are funny to be honest with you and I get a kick out of them. While I have my opinions I do know most kids are just fine and their parents really try. It's the few that don't I love to rag on.

;) he's never done that...I will admit (I'll deny it later) that one time he got us out of a realllly super expensive restaurant by throwing a 6 month old fit...keeping us from having to order something we would have been to sick with the dread of paying to eat. :7

I would think getting on top of a table would be a bit much but then I've done that at Oktoberfest so who am I to judge? :D
Even good kids act up when they're tired etc... no biggie. It's the reaction of the parents that makes the difference. all of this comes down to common sense and respect for other's space really.

8. How often do you get to go out to eat, - and |
|
when you do go out to eat, what sorts of restaurants do you frequent?
If you go to family restaurants, you'll always run the risk of children, but family restaurants tend to be set up to deal with kids.
The higher risk of being annoyed by children is encountered in modestly upscale establishments patronised by young, upwardly mobile families. If a restaurant isn't set up to dealt with children, offering amusements and distractions, they tend to do what kids do and amuse themselves. Often this involves activity and volume levels adults would find inappropriate.

And I laugh at the idea that people on DU make up stories about kids in restaurants. AND :wtf:
It's a big world out there. 99% of the time, DUers eat at restaurants with kids around and ZERO PROBLEMS. But who wants to post about that? :D
That 1% is going to create the occasional TRUE and ACCURATE post.
