Just changed the channel to watch Bill Maher, and some old guy got stabbed & beheaded..

That's the ONLY footage of Rome I have seen.. I was considering watching it from the get go when it's re-run, but if it's all guts & gore, I'll pass

It was pretty much all guts and gore. At least during Imperial Rome. For my money, I'd love to live in Republican Rome, that'd be an adventure and with 85% less gore.

But Hollywood sure is in love with Imperial Rome. Why not, the Rome they so admire would probably be so goddamn infatuated with Hollywood that it would be one happy, gushing, incest fuckfest if they two cultures ever met each other.

On Edit- Odd how his party is a synonym of the ghost of moderation in Rome. Huh...I think that in light of a grand historical scale, our "republicans" will garner an new meaning for that word.

3. It's a great show

It isn't all blood and guts, but it can get grizzly occasionally. It tries to show what life was like for the common people, which is interesting.

There's also plenty of political intrigue, sex, religious rites (some bloody), marital strife, military maneuvering, scheming, conniving, and full frontal nudity.
