Regarding Frankie Five Angels. Did Michael think Roth or Pentangelo tried to kill him? Michael tells Roth it was Frankie Five Angels and tells Frankie it was Roth. I have been confused about his for years.
In the meeting with a Rosato brother, assassin says "Michael Corleone says hello" and proceeds to try to strangle Frankie after Michael tells Frankie it was Roth all along. Anybody put some sense to this?

It was definitely Roth that tried to kill Michael. Michael told Roth it was Pentangelo to make Roth think Michael did not know it was really Roth. Michael was being honest with Frankie.

I think the alleged attempted assination on Pentangelo was a fake, a ruse to make Roth THINK Michael was seeking revenge agains Pentangelo.

That is how I interpreted it. But I could be wrong.

2. I kinda think so...why does Michael scream at Frankie when

he meets with him at Pentangelo's home? I don't have an answer for that either. Frankie took the attempt on his life seriously though...by cooperating with the feds and the committee as revenge toward Michael. Michael then apparently asked Frankie to kill himself.

He sacrificed himself, for the good of "Rome."

3. roth set it all up

it was roth that:
1. set up the machine gun hit at his home
2. blew up the flimsy 'deal' with the rosato brothers (new york shootout) to make frankie think michael betrayed him (which is why the strangler mentioned his name)


the reason why michael talks to roth, pretending that it was frankie that set him up was because he was still hoping to profit millions on their deal in cuba, before the revolution turned their operation into shit
