I don't know why I lurked around DU for so long before becoming a member either. I read DU as my primary source of news, mostly (it's much easier on the stomach than the mainstream news sources). Then, like you were saying, I started to notice what a cool community the DUers are, and I just wanted to become a part of that. My mother's family bought the home in the mid 40's. It was one of those "Levite" homes and my mom's, parent's home was one of the first in the neighborhood. Thus they got a corner lot (3/4 of an acre!)My grandparents died young and my mother inherited. That's where I grew up until Maine when I was 12.

God, I miss NJ. The seasons are pretty much 4 per/yr. And the foliage is pretty much there straight up till Halloweeen, I remember going in my Little-Bo-PeeP outfit one year. That'd be unheard of in Maine! Poor kids have to run around in Parkas.
