This guy is a dynamo.
One of my husband's medical school classmates is visiting from Islamabad (he used to be chief of urology at Texas Tech, but moved his family back to Pakistan because he wanted to raise his kids in a more Islamic environment). He's been visiting Lubbock and helping in his old clinic, and he's staying overnight with us and leaving for New York tomorrow before heading back to Pakistan tomorrow. He's helping to coordinate relief efforts, and tonight we attended a fundraising dinner for the quake victims, and he raised $35,000. He's now in a fierce teleconference with fellow doctors discussing what supplies they need to obtain to take to Pakistan and how best to help the victims.

I admire him SO MUCH. Instead of sitting around commiserating, he's actively involved in helping his fellow human beings. We donated money, but I feel ashamed that that's all we're doing. His wife is an anesthesiologist in Islamabad, and I just talked to her. She was crying and telling me of the multiple amputations she's assisted with; it's really getting her down. She wants us to come to Pakistan to help. Oh, how I wish we could, but I don't think my husband can get away right now.

It's been a very emotional evening. Their son lost two of his classmates and a teacher when the tower in Islamabad collapsed, and their daughter attends Islamic classes there and was scheduled to attend class just an hour after the quake. She could have been in the building. It really makes me appreciate how fragile life is.

I love you guys!!!
