thinking of joining a gym---any suggestions? |
|
There is a local Bally's and Gold's nearby, and i need to join one of them soon...I remember in the past that a lot of these fitness chains have dealt with BBB complaints about predatory contracts and the like...does anyone have any suggestions or know of other reputable chains?

1. Is there a 24 Hour Fitness nearby? |
|
My sister goes to one in the Bay Area and hasn't complained of any deceptive business practices.
Do you have a local recreation center with aerobic and weight machines? I go to one here in Irving and love it. They charge $25 a month and don't make you sign a contract - you just pay as you go. I guess it depends on what you're looking for, but I like them just fine - I just need a treadmill and weight machines. Good luck!

4. i might try the local rec |
|
i remember joining them in high school for only 10 bucks a month (10+ years ago), so i think they should still be cheap....I had looked at the ymca, but it was too expensive...
all i'm also looking for is treadmill, maybe a stair-stepper, a pull-up bar and some weights.

2. Get a set of free weights and a bench for use at home. |
|
Add some aerobics and callisthenics to your routine.
Why pay assholes to provide the space and equipment?

5. i had done this in the past (buy my own weights) |
|
which i had to later sell...my current living situation will not allow the space for a personal workout center.

3. Don't sign a long term contract |
|
I did and it worked out for me because I've been a member for sixteen years. But many people join for the long term and then never use it. The salesperson is just looking for a commision which is understandable but don't fall for it. Insist on a month to month membership but if that doesn't work ask to talk to their manager.

9. I'm with Gold's, and I like them. |
|
They had a reasonable price as well as 24-hour facilities. I can also use any of their gyms in town. Just read everything and have them explain it all to you.
I'd also sign up for a few sessions with a trainer, who can help you get started and show you the proper way to use the equipment.

the only reason why I ended my membership is because I moved into an apartment complex that has an incredible gym. When I leave this place, I'm going to renew my Gold's membership.
There are many locations here, the hours are great, the price is affordable and the staff is nice and helpful. I typically judge a gym by the people who go there. As a woman, I feel comfortable because the men aren't creepy and the women aren't wearing make-up...people are serious about working out so it's not a meat market.
