Recent music purchases????
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 11:27 PM by aquaman
This week I have bought:

Constantines- Tournament of Hearts, (new release) like it quite a bit, good rough rock n roll.

My Morning Jacket- Z, (new release) Very different sound for My Morning Jacket, but it is good, still forming my opinion as I have only listened to the cd one time.

Dirty Three- Cinder, (new release), have not listened to the cd yet, saving it for later tonight. Generally an instrumental band, the new cd has some guest vocalists.

Okay your turn.

1. BIRTH OF THE COOL - Miles Davis
Actually, my copy is The Complete Birth Of the Cool with some added live recordings from the late 40s or early 50s. Very nice, indeed.

3. The Constantines are cool...
I missed a show by them and The Weakerthans a few months back. I was pretty disappointed.

My most recent cd purchases have been The Mars Volta's "De-loused in the Comatorium" (actually my second time buying it, because the other copy was lost in an unfortunate mishap) and The Killers' "Hot Fuss" limited edition. Good stuff.

8. just my opinion
It's all great but I really like New Day Rising and Everything Falls Apart. Can't believe it's been over 20 years since they damaged my hearing at a tiny club in Raleigh NC

Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm

Have you ever noticed
When you're feeling really good
There's always a pigeon
That'll come shit on your hood

Or you're feeling your freedom
And the world's off your back
Some cowboy from Texas
Starts his own war in Iraq

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm

16. A bunch of bluegrass
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 10:37 AM by Redneck Socialist
the company we keep by The Del McCoury Band. It's ok, but nothing you haven't heard before if you are a Del fan.

you were there for me by Peter Rowan and Tony Rice. Very nice.

Ragin' Live by Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. Highly polished, hard driving bluegrass. An excellent effort from Rhonda and the boys.

Live at the Newburyport Firehouse from The Dry Branch Fire Squad. Excellent bluegrass with an old timey feel. Worth it for Ron Thomason's stories alone.

And lastly, but definitely not leastly, The Art of Virtue by Adrienne Young and Little Sadie. A most excellent disk. Not strictly bluegrass per se, but I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of americana roots music, with an old timey, bluegrassy feel.

19. Todd Snider -- "East Nashville Skyline"

This song raised a smile:

Conservative Christian, right wing Republican, straight, white, American male.
Gay bashin’, black fearin’, poor fightin’, tree killin’, regional leaders of the South
Frat housin’, keg tappin’, shirt tuckin’, back slappin’ haters of hippies like me.
Tree huggin’, peace lovin’, pot smokin’, porn watchin’ lazyass hippies like me.
Tree huggin’, love makin’, pro choicen, gay weddin’, widespread diggin’ hippies like me.
Skin color-blinded, conspiracy-minded, protestors of corporate greed,
We who have nothing and most likely will ‘till we all wind up locked up in jails
By conservative Christian, right wing Republican, straight, white, American males,.

Diamonds and dogs, boys and girls, living together in two separate worlds
Following leaders of mountains of shame, looking for someone to blame.

Diamonds and dogs, boys and girls, living together in two separate worlds
Following leaders of mountains of shame, looking for someone to blame.
I know who I like to blame:

Conservative Christian, right wing Republican, straight, white, American males,
Soul savin’, flag wavin’, Rush lovin’, land pavin’ personal friends to the Quayles
Quite diligently workin’ so hard to keep the free reins of this Democracy
From tree huggin’, peace lovin’, pot smokin’, barefootin’ folk-singin’ hippies like me.
Tree huggin’, peace lovin’, pot smokin’, porn watchin’ lazyass hippies like me.

but the album is nothing special. Before that it was the Best of Guns 'n Roses.
