I ran into a Republican father-in-law of a marine today |
|
Another USAF retiree.
He voted for Bush and he's glad that Saddam is out of power... But he hates this war. He wishes that we'd pull out post haste.
Sees no reason why we should waste any more time and money in that county.
His Son-in-law came back for some leave, after spending nine months in country... he'll have to go back for three more months to finish his tour.
I told him that we should have never went. We had a job to do in Afghanistan and Bush fucked up things there, by attacking Iraq. He agreed.
When we parted. the told him that I hoped that his Son-in-law will finish his tour safe and sound. He thanked me.
I pray to god that does, as well as all of all our kids.
But of course, the man that he voted for will see to it that that doesn't happen for a lot of them.

1. Bush doesn't want to lose sleep, or appear weak. |

He gives a shit about the people who give him money, that's about it.
I think these Neocons have a lot of the classic conservatives pissed off. I don't quite agree with some of McCain's politics, but some I do. If the majority of Republican candidates were more like him, the party would be more palatable, and really more of what traditional conservatism represents, i.e. hands off government, fiscal responsibility, etc.
I totally agree that Bush fucked up in Afghanistan. We went into a country run by a fundamentalist religious group, overthrew that, kinda, then went into Iraq, a secular government, and turned it into what might end up being a fundamentalist government. Great job.
