Trends in volume of alcohol consumed in last week

Although the proportion of pupils who drank in the previous week has fluctuated rather than increased over time, there has been a clear increase in the amount of alcohol consumed by those who drank. Estimated average consumption in the previous week rose from 5.3 units in 1990 to 10.4 units in 2000. The increase in consumption was concentrated on spirits, beer (along with lager and cider) and alcopops (which were first asked about in 1996). The amount of other types of drink consumed remained fairly constant.

The increase in alcohol consumed in the previous week by drinkers was seen among both boys (5.7 units in 1990, 11.6 in 2000) and girls (4.7 units in 1990, 9.1 in 2000).

1. I'm a little hurt that this hasn't made the new greatest page yet.
Here's my list for tomorrow:

go to gym
go to painting class
go patch the servers at work
go buy a comfortable, durable, black cardigan sweater with my work anniversary gift card
have a decent, nutritious lunch for a change. fattoush?
go to gym (attempt 2)
clean bathroom
clean up kitchen
go to wine shop

I will get two or three done.

Personal stuff too, maybe.

7. Painting class is fun. This guy is good, and teaches lots of media.
For people who already understand drawing, perspective, light, etc., Cliff will teach you a lot of different media including an ontogeny-recapitulates-phylogeny course in Renaissance oil painting, from monochromatic to analogous to a la prima.

Cliff is an American painter with pieces in the permanent collections of SFMOMA, MOMA, etc. He was raised on a Missouri horse farm, shot in the head and the leg in Cambodia, schooled in the Caracci tradition in Italy, oh, blah blah blah.

It's a great way to dedicate some hours each week. And when you're done with the course, you can just linger in class, week after week, as I have for years.

10. Geez, I envy you.
Really. I've never had a painting class, but I'm thinking of taking a human figure this winter, with nude models. My drawing skills are very poor; I draw best with a paint brush. I always think it wise to just _do_ the things that frighten me most, and drawing under the gun is one of those things.

Thank you, swag, for the inspiration and your generosity of spirit.
